Give Castle Lodge the Dodge

Advantages: A historical building
Disadvantages: disappointing and spoilt by the owners

CASTLE LODGE It was a family day out in Ludlow and whilst I was sitting resting on the bench, waiting for my hubby to return from checking the car and the parking fees, I noticed this really old Tudor style house opposite and on closer inspection discovered that it was open to the public. We didn?t go in straight away, but I did drop a big hint like, ?I want to go in there before we go home? to the family, so that they would not be surprised after the visit to the castle that we went in here. After we had a lovely lunch in the café situated next door to the lodge after a amazing trip around the castle. We were all in high spirits and enjoying our food and refreshments, I dropped the bombshell that I wanted to see the house, they did try to dissuade me as they were now getting slightly tired and wanted to do a little retail ...

Review of Castle Lodge, Ludlow

The Outer Bailey, not the Old Bailey

Advantages: A good family day out
Disadvantages: You need a dry day

anyone knows I do love old buildings and take great pleasure in looking at the architecture and seeing how many parts of it have stood the test of time, but having my daughter with us and her enthusiasm for getting the right photographs made it loads of fun too. Enough waffle lets get onto the delights of the castle; the gift shop was set in the old porters lodge and the prison, it is set on two levels so you can go upstairs if you wish to spend more money, we actually didn?t venture upstairs as I am not a great fan of paying the gift shop prices to buy something for the sake of it. My daughter did get a couple of small items for her sister on the way out, just to show her that she was missed from the visit. We then moved onto next door to the ruins of the old stables, this is just a ruined bricked shell now with little window typical ...

Review of Ludlow Castle (England)

Ludlow Castle

Advantages: Delightful castle in a delightful town
Disadvantages: None

Ludlow Castle has a history stretching back to the 11th Century when work first began on it. It was considerably enlarged in the 14 Century and was the site of a skirmish in the Wars of the Roses a hundred years later. It was also a home for Edward IV’s sons who later became ‘The Princes In The Tower’ as well as Prince Arthur (Henry VIII’s brother) and Queen Mary Tudor spent some years here. This then is a Castle with a lot of history. So what is it like? It remains not as a complete ruin and many of the features built over the ages remain almost in tact and certainly recognisable. There is the basic but classic Norman structure enhanced by additions of Medieval and Tudor origin. There is a moat with a bridge to cross to get into the inner area and the Keep. It would be particularly useful for any school ...
