Like all of the other restaurants this place is themed out to the max. Crocodiles and guitars glued to the walls and a lot of red! I personally find the theme and decoration exciting. Opening Old Orleans in Enfield, opens at 12 every day and closes at 11.30pm monday to saturday and at 10.30 on sunday.
Building This restaurant is located on a business park with a few other restuarants, a cinema and a gym. It is a relatively small square lot on the park and is easily seen and accessed from the main road. The builing is on one floor although round the edge inside, some of the tables are a step up from the others.
Decor If you've ever been to an Old Orleans you will understand what I mean when i say the decor is 'busy' the Enfield one is no exception. Like all of the other restaurants this place is themed out to the max. Crocodiles and guitars glued to the walls and a lot of red! I personally find the theme and decoration exciting. But I suppose for an older couple wanting a romantic meal, it would be slightly too much. This place is definately set up for young couples and families.
Menu The menu is based on a very southern American style food. Although that covers such a wide range that there is definately someone for everyone on the menu. The starters are in perfect proportion to make sure that you don't over fill before your main. Grilled Enchildas with pork and BBQ sauce. This is my favourite starter, its is also available with grilled chicken. The tortillas are filled with spicy jalepenos, peppers onions, shredded pork and drizzled with bbq sauce and cheese then grilled. And I have to say they are so delicous that I would happily have them as my main if there was more of them. Although enchilladas are pretty basic and easy to cook. They can be messy, but the Old Orleans chefs seem to present them perfectly. The price for this starter is around £4.95 which is not only reasonable but I think the perfect amount for the size portion that you get.
The Louisianna Sampler. This is a sharing star, it comes with chicken skewers, potato wedges, hot wings, shrimps, calamari, garlic bread and mini ribs. Although this sounds like LOADS this sampler is only suitable for two people really, but is quite decently priced at £11.50. Although this started is mixed and delicious, it can be too filling and I think ribs and hot wings are very basic. and sometimes something a bit different is a nice treat.
Mains The main courses are plentyful, as I have already said there is something for everyone. The main menu is sectioned into - 'From the Grill' - Steaks 'Southern cooking and combos' - Selection of combos and traditional southern meals Burgers and Sandwiches - as it says Fajitas - My favourite, comes in steak, chicken and vegitarian Chicken - Selction of yummy chicken dishes Fish - Never tried the fish here but looks nice on the menu Pastas and salad - self explained Every main that I have had has always been nice. I always try to go for something different but my favourites are the chicken Fajitas and the rib eye steak which is always cooked how i request. The dishes are always well sized and they all taste delicious, i can honestly say that everytihg i've eaten there has been nice.
After everythinhg thats been said so far, you may wonder why I have only given the restaurant a satisfactory rating so here goes...
Service The service in this Enfield restaurant, and in each Old Orleans I have been in has been appalling. The staff are all so friendly, but there is usually less staff than I think there should be, and i often find that I have to wait at the door for five or ten minutes to wait for someone to notice and seat us. Then after being seated there is a long wait for someone to come over and ask for your drinks order. I am not sure that the Old Orleans brand convincingly care for their customers which is a shame because in these times people are finding it harder and harder to afford nights out eating. The restaurant is now charging if you want BBQ sauce with your chips, and I went a few weeks ago and had the fajitas. They'd run out of small tortillas, so they cut a large torilla into quarters, which were so small nothing could fit in them. When I sent them back, the waitress took ten minutes to come back with two half tortillas and by then my chicken was cold...why couldnt they just give me four large tortillas? This experience hasn't put me off too much but I definately feel angry every time i go there at the lack of attention the staff pay to their customers.
Atmosphere The atmosphere here is definately best suited for young families and childrens partys or young couples. The restaurant is usually very noisy and therefore I would not recommend you go there if you want a quiet meal.
Prices The prices and the food are the main reasons that I would recommend this restaurant. It is a nice and simple meal out and the prices are so reasonable. Everytime me and my boyfriend go it works out about £15 a head which is really good for the amount of food we eat, and sometimes that can include a glass of wine or a cocktail.
go? If you want a yummy night out for cheap then definately come here, however you need to be in a good mood with a lot of patience to deal with the level of service that you will recieve here. For me, nice food wins hands down and because of the good value for money I personally can switch off when it comes to the service however, if you can't...don't bother.
