Building a Bridge to my Heart

Advantages: Stunning architecture and setting, free, the handsome divers
Disadvantages: Dives are at random times; very slippy stones underfoot

the hope of seeing some diving. The practice of diving from the Stari Most is as old as the bridge itself. It is a more dangerous activity than one might think; the water is very cold, even on hot day (I can vouch for that after a paddle) and there are hidden rocks so you really must be familiar with the site. These days you must be a member of the Mostar Diving Club to jump from the bridge and young men spend years training to be allowed to participate. An annual competition exists, but in summer you may see diving on any day. The trouble is that there are no set times so you may or may not be lucky. We were eating lunch in the garden of a restaurant near the bridge when we heard a cheer and a splash but we couldn?t quite see the bridge because of the trees at the edge of the courtyard. We did see the diver emerge from the water and climb ...

The Swan Hotel - Newby Bridge, Cumbria

Advantages: Very tranquil, pretty setting and beautiful hotel
Disadvantages: Car park is about 500 yards from entrance - when it rains you get very wet!

My partner and I stayed at The Swan Hotel in Newby Bridge last weekend and i felt compelled to share our experience with others... The hotel is located at the Southern tip of Lake Windermere and overlooks the River Leven. It is in an absolutely beautiful setting, is accessed via a small bridge and is set right back from the main road. I think in total it has 55 bedrooms, some of which are suites - but we opted for a standard double during our stay. We were in room 313 and this had a river view - as do all the odd numbered rooms i think. The room was very spacious and the bed was extremely comfy (although very soft). The bathroom was perfectly pleasant, although decorated in a slightly 'old fashioned' way. You get a few select Sky Channels in the rooms and also broadband is available. The minibars are well stocked but, as ...

Review of Swan Hotel, Newby Bridge

Hôtel Restaurant La Flambée -dine in style but bedrooms plain.

Advantages: Beautiful dining room
Disadvantages: Bedrooms adequate but not elegant.

We stayed at the Hôtel Restaurant La Flambée in Bergerac in November 2008 for two nights and enjoyed breakfast and dinner. What follows is an honest account as possible about the hotel as I can provide. Hopefully this may help if you are planning to visit this part of the world. We flew to Bordeaux but the most convenient airport for the hotel is actually in Bergerac as the hotel lies about 2 miles outside the town. Incase you are not familiar with this part of the world these places are in the main wine growing areas, and are in South West France. Flying time from the UK is about an hour and a half if you are flying from the London areas. Easyjet will take you to Bordeaux from Luton, likewise British Airways will fly you from Gatwick, and Ryanair will fly you from Stansted to Bergerac. This area is great as it is possible to use as ...
