Old Ship Hotel is Really Very OLD!

Advantages: Service at breakfast and breakfast itself
Disadvantages: shabby rooms, noisy doors, no sound-proofing

As part of a hen weekend package we were upgraded to the apparently 4 star Old Ship Hotel in Brighton which is Brighton's oldest hotel. I hadn't heard anything about it prior to hearing we would be staying here but having asked a few friends who'd visited Brighton quite often I didn't hear anything positive - those who had stayed there said it was pretty shabby and those who hadn't stayed said it looked pretty shabby just from the outside. Not a good start but as if was part of the hen weekend package and because we'd been upgraded for free from a 3 star hotel to the Old Ship Hotel I had to assume it couldn't be all bad - maybe it had been refurbished since my friends had seen it/stayed there. There are apparently 50 car parking spaces for use by hotel guests which you have to pay about £15 a day and £5 overnight to use these. There ...

Review of Barceló Brighton Old Ship Hotel, Brighton & Hove

Embodiment of old-time elegance and luxury

Advantages: Opulent environment and decor, fresh haut cuisine dishes, excellent location, friendly and helpful staff
Disadvantages: Expensive

individually designed with air conditioning, flat screen television with radio, telephone, complimentary high-speed broad band Internet connections, and of course, en-suite marble bathrooms. Having stayed in a LOT of undesirable hotels in my time all over the country and the world, I was suitably impressed by my parents' room. The sizable rooms, like the rest of the Old Parsonage, exuded understated sumptuousness and elegant refinement. There are the basic complimentary goods such as a kettle, towels, bath robes, and more: you must resist the urge to simply vegetate in the pure opulence of your room for the entirety of your stay. Some of the ground floor rooms also have private terraces overlooking the Old Parsonage's Church garden where breakfast, lunch or dinner can be enjoyed, though unfortunately my parents' room was not afforded this loveliness ...

Review of Old Parsonage Hotel, Oxford

Old Macdonald had a 5-star Hotel - eee ai eee ai oh

Advantages: It's spectacular and surprisingly quiet and the best location in the city
Disadvantages: Parking, high prices.

. The Randolph was really something special. At that time there were no other top notch hotels in the centre of Oxford and visitors had to choose between the glories of the Randolph or a B&B on the Iffley, Cowley, Woodstock or Banbury Roads. The Randolph stood alone in its magnificence but has more recently been joined by arrivistes such as The Bank and the Malmaison, the latter housed in the old Oxford Prison. A few years ago my husband and I wanted to attend a ceramics exhibition in the city and I was lucky enough to get a really outstanding bargain deal at the Randolph. For only a few pounds more than a grotty B&B, I could finally get to stay in my dream hotel. I love high Victorian architecture and the Randolph is a fine example. It was built in 1864 at a time when no architect could resist sticking just one more bit of ostentatious ...
