Advantages: Nice location, clean, cheap Disadvantages: Creaky floors, not the best rooms ever
The hotel is in a nice location and the rooms are clean. The staff are friendly and it is a safe environment and provides a car park.
Im not sure wether the rooms have been re-vamped since I stayed, as the bathroom at the time was superb and newly installed, however the rooms themselves werent the best. This hotel does its job as a pleasant place to stay while visiting the picturesque town of Harrogate, if you dont a want fancy luxorious room. If you are looking for the best experience I would go for a more expensive room elsewhere, but this hotel is by no means below standards or a bad experience and I would stay there again given the same circumstances. ... more

Advantages: Beautiful, peaceful-ish Disadvantages: Can be rough at night
or the Fashion Fair) you wont have any problem – just drive into town and pick your style. Posh hotels are everywhere – the Moat House is a huge mirrored glass and red brick monstrosity right next to the conference centre (HIC), the OldSwan is a gorgeous ivy covered building, the Crown is another lovely old building, Harrogate Spa Hotel is conveniently located smack bang in the middle of town, as is the Imperial next door and the Majestic has gorgeous large gardens. All these are very centrally located and all are very large offering conference and party facilities and reasonably-ish priced – when I stayed at the Crown it was about £60 per room per night. Then there are the 36,000 smaller hotels and bed and breakfasts. Ok, that might be stretching the truth a little but we really do make the most of the annual tourist invasion lol ...

Advantages: A lovely place to visit and live. Disadvantages: none
the Valley Gardens and is within walking distance of the town. This hotel was hit by a bomb in the world war. The OldSwan was the place where Agatha Christie went in hiding. All the main hotels in Harrogate are situated near the Valley Gardens.
There is also an exhibition centre near to the Turkish Baths and this has been home to Political Parties Conventions and Eurovision Song Contest and hosts a lot of conventions throughout the year.
Bettys Cafe is situated locally and this is a rather quaint tea and cake shop where ladies in Victorian times would go for elevenses. Bettys is world renowned for its products and its factory is based in Starbeck, Harrogate. My mum and brother have worked there and when we were kids we would always get cheap cakes and cream. No wonder I am a bit on the tubby side now.
Farrahs Toffee Shop is also situated ...

Manufacturer's product description
It originated from an 18th-Century coaching inn, Old Swan Hotel was rebuilt in 1840. Set in 5 1/2 acres of gardens, the hotel is famous as the retreat of Agatha Christie during her disapearance in 1926. The Old Swan hotel is situated in its own substantial grounds and is very close to the centre of Harrogate - a fine English spa town. With an excellent restaurant and an impressive reception area, this hotel is always popular, especially as it is the place where Agatha Christie disappeared in 1926.
