The "Old Tom" is one of the famous kitchens in Town. In the pub in the front we are serving small snacks and different local kegbeers. Old Tom's restaurant is very well known for its culinary specialities of the region but also eel, lobster & oysters are a house speciality. Don't forget the very nice wine-list with French wines. It is the chef who makes this beautiful selction.
Advantages: Great Historical Monuments Disadvantages: The Weather! (?)
...I visited Ypres not so long ago for a day trip to have a browse around the World War grave yards and the old trenches that were used during the war. I visited both the Allied grave yards and the German grave yards and they both have sad yet interesting feel about them. The allied grave yard is amazingly kept, with the white stones and rememberence monuments naming those whose died defending their country. I also took the time to sign the rememberence book and filled it with simply a word that covers everything, "Respect".
The German grave yard i visited was smaller but just as sad. With it's flat grey stones and basic look, however it is also very well kept and has a peaceful feel about it.
The trenches that i visited were again, fantasticly kept. I even had a wonder through them. The dark tunnels and the thick mud would make...

Advantages: Good atmosphere, amazing buildings, good shopping Disadvantages: Very sad, extremly cold in winter!
...I have recently been on a day-long trip with my school to see Ypres as we are studying the 1st World War. I found it fascinating.
Ypres is a small medieval town in Belgium. It used to be a small and sleepy town with only 20,000 inhabitants. It was taken by the German army in 1914 and after four years of war it was left in ruins. It was so flat and empty that you could see around you for miles. It was one of the best cloth towns in Belgium so the money from that paid for the town to be completely rebuilt.
We excitedly boarded our coaches at five o'clock in the morning on 11 March. We crossed the channel in the Euro tunnel and drove through France and into Belgium. We arrived in a very cold Belgium at 11am, unprepared for the day that lay ahead.
We stopped off at a few Commonwealth War Grave Cemeteries, including the one...

Advantages: you learn a lot about the world war, doesn't cost a lot if you visiting from U.K Disadvantages: The weather could be really cold and muddy in some areas
...Ypres is the place to be if you are a sort of person who is interested in History of the World war mainly concentrating on German and Belgium. I been there three times mainly because of my history studies and the experience was extraordinary.
However, Because i've mainly visited there for History studies it's hard for me to tell you about the city life style, entertainment etc.
A return ticket to ypres only cost me £45 via Euro tunnel which is rather cheap.
When we went to the flanders fields were there is lots of graves we were just wondering around and ma mate noticed a grave of her great grand dad and she was shocked i actually took the picture for her as she did not have a camera.
The weather in the area can be a bit painful for the reason that it's hardly hot. Its mainly cold and if u visit the trenches it could be muddy...

TomTom 720T
SatNav devices remind me a little of mobile phones in the early nineties. They are a little bit pricey, a little bit niche and until recently the preserve of gadget freaks and those who drive for a living.
These days they are a lot more more
The 930T is nicely designed, with a sleek black finish and pocket-sized build. There are few controls on the exterior save for a power button, but the interface is so well designed that this isn't really a problem. On-screen buttons are large and easily... more
