Advantages: No mosquitoes on Lesvos, just very nice people at The Olive Press Hotel. Disadvantages: About a 2 hour transfer fron airport to resort, but a great journey.

The Olive Press Hotel, is set right on the edge of the sea, in fact the sea laps against one side of the hotel at night, which four elderly visitors had to complain about if only to us.
When we booked the resort and the hotel we where asked ... ...by the owner of the Olive Press and this is closed for the duration of the season, so no noise.
I read in the First Choice brochure that the rooms where small and we where not disappointed when we arrived to be shown to our room and it was on the small side, but very adequate for our needs. We had in the room a built in wardrobe, a small fridge, dressing table with stool, low table to put your cases on and a chair, plus two bedside ... more

The Olive Press Hotel, is set right on the edge of the sea, in fact the sea laps against one side of the hotel at night, which four elderly visitors had to complain about if only to us.
When we booked the resort and the hotel we where asked if we wanted a sea vies, a balcony or no preference, and we decided on the no preference. On a return visit I would ask for a balcony with a sea view if only for the pleasure of sitting there at night, I am not always a good sleeper and to hear and watch the sea would have been wonderful. Our rooms where on the other side of the hotel and we had a one way road just outside the window, which was not too bad, but as a cobbled street – path the cases leaving and arriving made a bobbly noise, though we did not mind. We also read that there was a night club near by and that the noise from that kept people awake.
Well the nightclub has been brought by the owner of the Olive Press and this is closed for the duration of the season, so no noise.

The bathroom was very nice with a shower curtain so we could ask for no more. What was great about the hotel was that they had air conditioning, at no extra cost, but worked via a link to the window, so that when the window was closed the air-con came on. The rooms where cleaned every day, the floors washed, beds made and clean linen and towels every other day, really faultless. The cleaners where always so happy in their work and with the running of the hotel.
Our room was just off reception and next to the manager’s office, which at times during the day if in the room you could hear voices but nothing to complain about. At the reception desk they also had two p.c. permanently logged on for the use of guest again free to use.
The reception staff where very friendly and helpful and when we arrived Rob asked for an extra pillow and it was there before we went to bed. In the reception area there are comfortable seats and a bar, which was open 7-00pm till late and Hanna the bar person came from Poland and spoke wonderful English and was a great asset to the hotel, Sheryl found her a wealth of knowledge in the cocktail department later on in the evenings.
The Olive Press also has a restaurant, and we had a buffet breakfast every day, and we ate in the Olive Press restaurant 5 nights out of the 14. Breakfast was fresh bread, (breakfast was 8-00am till 10-00) some days the bread was still being cut if you arrived at 8-00am, yoghurt, honey, jam, sliced peaches, fresh baked cake, cereal, boiled eggs, fried eggs, cheese both sliced and feta, ham, tomato, cucumber, water-melon, bowls of fresh fruit and olives, tea, coffee and fruit juice. When a tray was emptied it was filled up and returned in no time at all.
The view at breakfast and any time you ate was of the sea, and in the evening the sunset was just magnificent.
Eating during the day, they had a very good menu, but the rocket salad was a great favourite or ours. This as it says was a plate of rocket leaves, parmesan cheese, and tomato and in both olive oil and balsamic vinegar with fresh bread this would and could be shared between 2 or 3 people for the cost of 6 euro very good and light for middle of the day.
The food in the evening was very nice. If you stay there on half board then it is a set menu in the evening and if you want to eat A la Carte then you pay 5 euro per person extra. We where just bed and breakfast so had the choice of the menu. I like briam, which a vegetable dish and not always on the menu’s so when it was there I tried it and was not disappointed. For those that are not sure, it is aubergine, courgette, onion, tomato and potato all cooked slowly in the oven in a tomato sauce with local Greek herbs and garlic, just so nice……yum yum, fried saganaki, crab salad as a starter again just so nice. The mains where kleftiko, beef stiffado, stuffed tomatoes and peppers, chicken curry, fish too much to list, pork chops and pork Gordon bleu we could not fault any of the plates that we tried and there was 8 of us in the party. Wine started at 8 euros a bottle and again very drinkable, Rob and Dougie drank the retsina with their meals. We paid most nights 13 to 17 euros per person an evening and that was with drinks so not a great drain on the pocket.
There is a courtyard area where we would sit and have a drink after we had eaten and that was at the base of the tower to the old Olive Press factory, which at night is lit up and looks amazing. There is also what we named quiet corner, but is outside the main entrance to the Olive Press Hotel with tables and chairs and over looks the sea, again very tranquil and a nice area to sit any time.
There is also a daytime bar which is a beached fishing boat, where again you can get a snack, sandwich, pannini, salad and a beer. Beer is 3 euro for a 500ml where as in the restaurant it is 2-50 euro.
Further along is the swimming pool, with the sun beds, free for your use.
The beach is pebbles so I would recommend that you take with you something to wear on your feet, but after about 8 feet out you are on sand, also not too deep at this point or rough. The sun beds though do not belong to the Olive Press Hotel, but to the water sports along the beach. You have to pay 2-50 euro for a sun bed and 2 euro for a sun shade. Not bad but if use every day it mounts up on the holiday spends.
All in all it was a great holiday, great resort, and a wonderful hotel. I and we have no problems with recommending The Olive Press Hotel to any one. Yammas.
