...I did not mean to stay in a Hotel 81 hotel. I was planning to be in transit through Singapore at my own expense for a day or so.I tried three four-star special offers.The first two came back after about 12 hrs to inform me that their hotel was full on the dates in question.
The third hotel was also full but offered me a hotel, Hotel 81 Geyland on Lorong 20, which they recommended for a cost of about £20 per night. Time was a bit tight ,but the photo looked OK on-line and the price was fantastic so I booked it and this is where I stayed, and stayed again on two further visits later in the year.
This hotel is not for seekers of de-luxe accommodation. The rooms are completely basic and quite small. My room had an air-conditioner (which did not cost extra to use), a small bathroom with toilet and shower and a welcome bag...

...For those who have been keeping up with my Mandarin Oriental exploits then this is the third installment. Today I shall review one of Singapore?s finest five star hotels and let you into the world of Mandarin Oriental Singapore.
I have stayed at a variety of hotels in Singapore but none have come as close to the perfect stay that you get at MO. I last stayed here in 2007 when the hotel was just branded as The Oriental, however Mandarin Oriental have since renamed the property under their full brand, just to make you aware in case you read reviews on either of the properties, they are in fact the same. Just look for the ?fan? logo of the company.
I was staying in Singapore in between a trip from Malaysia to Australia and given my love for MO I knew this would be a good choice. Suffice to say I was not disappointed.

...Orchard Road is the Oxford Street of Singapore. This is where you will find all the shopping mall and most of the popular departmental stores. The whole length of Orchard Road is approximately 1 km from end to end.
The more popular places along Orchard Road are Takashimaya, Paragon, Tang's, Far East and a few smaller shopping malls.
Shopping along Orchard Road is expensive. There are hardly any bargains to be found. Food from foodcourts is relatively cheap and affordable. However, dining in restaurants is always pricey.
Like most parts of Singapore, Orchard Road is very clean and neat. It is a souless place and very unfriendly. Unlike other cities around the world, Orchard Road in Singapore lacks colour, "vibrations" and fun. One gets the feeling that "big brother" is watching you all the time. Very strict and be very careful...
