Advantages: Cheap for 4*, clean, modern, Ok faciities Disadvantages: Iffy food, full of aging business men
Brno is, well, lacking in standard hotels. They have a few grotty places but the rest are magnificent 4 or 5* affairs. Since it was nearly my birthday and I was feeling extravagant, I decided just to go for it and to lap up the luxury in the HotelVoronez for 2 nights.
The hotel can be reached by tram (number 1 from the station going left for 5 stops) but I was lazy and decided a taxi was the way to go. I have a bad habit – whenever I’m in a non-English speaking country I will try German first if I don’t know the language. I asked the cab driver if he spoke German and he said a bit. I then asked if he spoke English and he kind of smirked and said something which I can only imagine to be the Czech equivalent of “As if!”. So back into German I went. I had with me a print out of the hotel’s website ...
know, I am a great believer in foreign languages and although I never expect everyone to speak English, you would think at a tourist office they would have people who weren’t just monolingual. I tried English. I tried German. Hell, I even tried French and Italian but to no avail. Eventually though (after about 15 mins) the 3 on the desk called for the 4th to come out and she could speak pidgin English so it was ok. Why she wasn’t out there serving to start with though is anyone’s guess.
V IS FOR VORONEZ
My hotel, a 4* affair with conference centre attached. One of the most famous hotels in Brno. Look out for an op coming your way this time tomorrow,

Advantages: lovely rooms and great service Disadvantages: none
Ok so this hotel is just 5 minutes from Old Street Station on the northern line. This hotel is in a rather less major part of London down a not perhaps so lovely street (at least it didn't seem that great in the dark!).
As you walk into the Hotel it immedaitely looks very modern with comofrtable trendy sofas and chairs and a cocktail bar to the side. I can't comment on the cocktails as I did not have enough time and from what I have heard since are VERY expensive! Our room was a double and we got it in their famous £1 SALE!!! Now this really was the bargain of the century so is well worth keeping an eye on their website for this as they do a few a year!
In my room was a comfortable kingsize bed, flatscreen tv, FREE wifi access and a lovely bathroom with a shower and some lovely bath/shower products that I now can't remember then ...
