Orlando is the dream destination of many British tourists with the attractions of Mickey Mouse and U niversal Studios on its doorstep it has great appeal to young and old.
Flights to Orlando can arrive at two different airports Orlando International or Sanford. Orlando International is a very modern busy airport and nearer to the centre of Orlando where as Sanford is an old military airport very basic but adequate and roughly an hours drive into Orlando.
If your are not staying in one of the Disney Hotels it is best to choose one on International Drive (ID).This is a long very busy road running from Sea World at one end to the Beltz Shopping Centre at the other. It is the hub of entertainment, restaurants ,shops crazy golf, spectacular shows it has it all and is an ideal location for the non driver.
There is a trolley bus which runs up and down ID and is very cheap this can be very busy first thing in the morning with people going to Sea World in one direction and Wet and Wild in the other also usually packed with shoppers after six when the Beltz closes. So best to linger over your all you can eat breakfast and let the biz calm down.Other means of transport along ID is the Lynx buses they too are very regular and as well as ID it can take you further afield to the Florida Mall eg. All fares are $1 though I believe seniors get for 25 cents and is excellent value.
Orlando doesn’t have a beach but all hotels have swimming pools and as temperatures can soar into the high nineties in the Summer they are essential to cool down as the humidity can be quite oppressive. Having said that Florida is used to very hot weather and so all hotel rooms restaurants and most shops have wonderful air conditioning. Don’t be disappointed is it rains it quite often does from around 4pm onwards and the lightening can be quite spectacular but it doesn’t last long and never seems to lower the temperature that much and everyone just dons their muti coloured rain coats and carries on as normal. Though I admit to spending over an hour in the penguin house at Sea World till a particularly bad storm passed I felt I knew them all personally by the time I got out. It doesn’t have the name of being the Lightening capital of the world for nothing.
There are so many things do do in or around Orlando you will never be bored I have been for the last fours years and there are things I didn’t have time for, so I guess I will just have to return some day.
All the way along ID and in the malls there are stands with booklets. Pick them up as they contain money off vouchers and dont be afraid to use them they usually make up for the tax that is added to your meal. All American restaurants expect you to leave a tip normally around 10% of the bill so remember to budget for it. If the service is very poor do not leave one though I have to admit the service is excellent.
All thats left to be said is enjoy your holiday and if I have missed anything please be in touch and I will try to help if
