One of the best deals in Orlando for non drivers, just has to be the I-Ride Tram-Bus ( looks like a tram but is actually a bus )
For under 10 USD you can take unlimited rides all week (7 days) along the whole tourist length of International Drive in Orlando, thats from the Bletz Factory outlet ( Shoppign Mall) at the top of Internationnal Drive to Seaworld at the opposite end ( about 7 miles)
These bus/trams run every 15 mins from 0700 to 2300 7 days a week in both directions and are excellent value for money. the drivers generally are very friendly some are even entertaining. the service is superb,I wish they would extend this tram service to the Theme parks brilliant idea but not very practical ( sadly !)
Nowadays you most definitely don't need to hire a car if you are staying anywhere along International Drive, the Holiday companies give you a free car...what a rip off !!! its not free as such you still end up paying around £400 for the hire in all the extras for two weeks holiday..
Then in addition to the hire charges, some hotels want you to pay 5 dollars a day parking fees, and the most of the Orlando theme parks also charge extra for parking, so on top of your motoring costs you are paying for the privalege of having you car parked in a car park while you enjoy the day at a theme park...a bit sensles really unless there are a few of you in the car....
So if you intend to visit Orlando, stay in a hotel on or just off International Drive, I can assure you its much cheaper to forget hiring a car unless you are in Kissimee or on a two centre holiday, but even so I would forget renting a car whilst in Orlando and just rent one for the week you are on the gulf coast or wherever else you are staying....
Orlando is a fun and fabulous place to be...you definitley do not need a car to get around ...if you are staying on the International Drive area, it is safe to walk or use the I-Drive Trams....and enjoy the area ...a waord of warning, these trams can get busy so I would recommend that you leave your hotel early if you are planning to be anywhere by a particular time, unless time isn't a problem and you don't mind waiting....being in Orlando you will get used to the queues....
Tickets can be bought from the Tram Drivers (exact change only) or better still if your Hotel has a guest relations counter buy your weekly pass from them, its less fuss and much cheaper to do it this way.....
When I used the I-Ride, we had a mad driver who liked to hold up the trolley full sign before stopping. He also made you yell YO! if it was your stop. No YO! and he really didn't stop. Some Yorkshire lot got a bit mad at him but I thought it was great fun. Nice op cheers, Martin :o)
