Advantages: interesting, thought provoking Disadvantages: complicated language!
below is my essay on racism and sexism in othello, i particularly enjoyed this play as it had a strong and unpredictable story line.
In many ways ?Othello? seems to reinforce racist attitudes as many of the characters show a great deal of racism towards Othello, for example, Iago shows racism when he tells Brabantio that Desdemona has married Othello and he tries to impose his racist views onto Brabantio by saying, ?an old black ram is tupping your white ewe?. Iago also describes Othello as a ?Barbary horse?. Brabantio also shows racist towards Othello but to his face as well as just behind his back. Another character who shows some degree of racism is Emilia, when she finds out that Othello killed Desdemona she is extremely angry and calls Othello a ?blacker devil?.
