Minto Place Suite Hotel Ottawa Canada
Review of Minto Place Suite, Ottawa by
kassurvey
Advantages: A Suite of Rooms to spread out in without an exhorbitant price tag
Disadvantages: None
We have stayed at the 'Minto' twice and have booked another visit for later this year. We have always enjoyed our stays there (hence the re-book) and are especially looking forward to this year as it has recently been completely re-furbished. The pictures on the website look great. We find that, as a family of five, with three children suite hotels are definitely the way to go. We appreciate having the extra space, our own lounge, kitchen and laundry ... ...went (the youngest was only just one) and it was so much more relaxing not to be confined to just one or two adjoining rooms. We always prefer breakfasting in our room so the kitchen is great to have and the children have space to spread out in the lounge, watch a little tv, even play with some toys if they are still young enough. Sometimes it is fun to eat in the room but there is always the option of the restaurant and shops which can be found ...

Old-fashioned grandeur, courtesy and style
Review of Fairmont Chateau Laurier, Ottawa by
lobourse
Advantages: Great comfort, great service ,great location, great breakfast
Disadvantages: None except the cold wind outside in winter
The Fairmont Chateau Laurier Hotel is one of the landmark buildings in the centre of Ottawa. Situated across the Rideau Canal from Parliament buildings, the hotel has had a rich and varied history. According to the plaque on the wall out the front, the Hotel was commissioned by the General Manager of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway. Unfortunately, the means he chose to travel to open the hotel in 1912 was the Titanic, so instead the hotel was opened ... ...had signed up to the Fairmont Loyalty scheme before travelling. This was free and not only did it speed up checking in and out, but also entitled me to free LAN internet access throughout the stay. The lobby had wonderfully comfortable settees and armchairs to sit in while waiting for people, and the whole atmosphere was redolent of a bygone age of grand hotels and luxurious living.
The room too was very well appointed. The bed was north American ...

Surprise - whos sleeping in my bed?
Review of Crowne Plaza Ottawa, Ottawa by
RichardElse
Advantages: Spacious Rooms, comfortable beds and the extras!
Disadvantages: Small bathrooms, views from room and other little things in review
...a cd in it The Crowne Plaza Sleep Advantage CD. I popped it in and pressed play expecting to hear the sounds of dolphins and whales or something. But I was listening to some guy telling me to get myself comfortable to get the best nights sleep by placing my head on the pillows etc.
Wow....never had I seen a hotel that offered that. Not that I was interested for myself but the thought counts! After inspecting a little more Crowne Plaza offers it ... ...and involves the following
- Certain Bedding and Linen (and pillows)
- Bathroom accessories, shower heads, curved shower rails
- Lavender Sray, eye mask, nightlight and ear plugs (on the bed)
- Sleep Advantage CD
I could not find my nightlight but the lavender spray was nice and fresh. A leaflet by the bed directed my to a website which told me I could purchase these items for my own home. The website didnt work but I found it eventually at ...

Great hotel if you can tolerate the smoke.
Review of Capital Hill Hotel & Suites, Ottawa by
davekaren
Advantages: Location, size of rooms.
Disadvantages: Smokiness
...of us stayed at the Capital Hill Hotel+Suites in Sept 2006. If location is what you want, then this is a winner-the hotel is as centrally located as you are going to get, plus the bus from the Train Station stops outside. A few minutes walk south down elgin street is the popular bars/pubs area popular with the Ottawa University students. To the other side of the hotel was the historical/government buildings, and sightseeing tours. The main eating+drinking ... ...outside of the hotel is a little shabby apart from the entrance area, but the reception area is very nicely presented and welcoming. Theres a small shop in the entrance which sells souveniers and selected food items (good for breakfast if you dont want to eat the hotels breakfast). Theres also a comedy club in the basement of the hotel (ill be honest i didnt know it was there until the penultimate day, on which it was shut), which is a pleasant alternative.
