...most densely populated of the outlying islands, however this shouldn't put off people who are looking for peaceful walks away from the hustle bustle of Hong Kong Island. Cheung Chau is a 40 minute (fast ferry) or 55 minute (ordinary ferry) boat ride away from Hong Kong Island. The boat arrives at the ferry pier in Cheung Chau village, which is where the majority of the population of the island lives. The village has a number of seafood restaurants ... ...over one of the other outlying islands. There is a promenade that links Sai Wan and Cheung Chau village, however for the novelty value of it we chose to get a ride on a junk boat (kaido) back to the village. This took about 5 minutes across the harbour and costs about HK$3.
All in all Cheung Chau is well worth a visit for a few hours if you fancy an escape from the mayhem of Hong Kong Island to see a more traditional area of the region. ...

Here can be found seafood restaurants, vegetarian restaurants, oriental restaurants, pubs, grocery stores, shops which sell oriental and Indian-style handicrafts, environmentally friendly ... ...is located immediate south of Yung Shue Wan. Lantau, where the everso hi tech Chek Lap Kok Airport now lives (RIP Kai Tak), along with a small monastery on the other side of the island which is home to the biggest seated buddha in Asia. He is amazing, the whole area is so peaceful & serene, totally unlike HK central. For a couple of quid you can have a proper buddhist monk prepared meal too.
ANother destination ... ...Yung Shue Wan or Sok Kwu Wan and walk over the island to the other village (about 1 & half hour walk, take plenty of water!) to catch the ferry back. There are numerous seafood restaurants on this little island. I highly recommend deep fried squid with garliuc & black pepper YUM! This little island was my home for five years and is a great little place. No cars, some gorgeous & secluded beaches. A fantastic getaway from the hustle & bussle of he ...

It takes you tot he special island where the world largest Buddha is located. It is huge! Its made out of copper and its a holy place. There are monks living on the island and within the complex there is a restaurant and where you be served a traditional vegetarian meal. My verdict... ... ...tasting and it was a thumbs down for me and my family. Although please try as the money goes towards the running on the monastery. A visit to Lanton Island is a different one and arrange so that you can spend a whole day there. This will be ideal for people who have special interest in the Buddha. ...
