For the past couple of years myself and the family have made frequent visits for short breaks to a lovely little caravan park in Northamptonshire, "Overstone". It's quite close for us but makes a nice change and is 100% enjoyable every time we go there, though in my case it's mostly the great fishing I enjoy. You can find Overstone caravan park in the village of Overstone, situated between Wellingborough and Northampton approximately 4 miles from the A14 making it easily accessible from almost every where.
This quaint little site offers an outdoor swimming pool along with a pitch & put course and the usual play park area's for the kiddie's including a mini BMX track. On site there is a launderette, post office, cafe, hair dressers and a general store so you don't have to worry about running out of anything. There is also a club house on site where you can enjoy a few beer's and have a game of snooker, and occasionally even listen to a bit of live music.
About 5 minutes walk from the site there is a very good Chinese take away for those that like oriental food or you can walk through the rear of the site to an enormous Pub go Restaurant. The food there is exceptional, I would recommend there Prawn Cocktail starter followed by a Surf-N-Turf. Without doubt it's one of the best eat-outs I've been to, and the prices are very reasonable.
The fishing on the site is by permit only, but it's well worth buying that ticket. It can be expensive if you are only there for a day or 2, but if you're there a bit longer you can get a week long permit which works out quite cheap. There a two main lakes on site both teaming with fish as the owners constantly stock it with a good variety, in fact the last time I visited they had one lake closed because they had just released some 1000 Carp, Bream and Roach into it. Well that still didn't stop me as the other lake provided me with over 50lb the first day, including a 12lb Carp. The fishing is truly excellent.
Pricing at the site differs upon the time of year you visit, but it is well priced, possibly underpriced. They allow dogs ( under control and cleaned up behind ) and offer electric hook up if required for a small fee. There are also showers available at no extra cost, so it makes for a great weekender. As a final point, they do not allow tents, but if you have friends with you who want to camp, you can get onto the Billing Aquadrome site which is only about 3 miles down the road.
