A choo-choo and a Ho-Ho-Ho all in one!
Advantages: Get to see Thomas and Santa, a good day out Disadvantages: Pretty dirty place, queues
...which takes place through selected days in December, so if you want to go and see Santa as well as Thomas, you've got a bit of a wait I'm afraid! Okay, the Railway Centre itself can be reached from the M4 (Junction 13) and the A34, or off the M40. First Great Western Trains also stop directly at the centre, and you can also catch buses from Oxford to get there, so it is pretty easy to find.
We found from the website that we had to pre-book tickets ... ...For more information on the Thomas Days Out, and what they offer all year round, see their website which is www.didcotrailwaycentre.org.uk. It is worth checking the website regularly as I think Thomas only comes a few times a year, so keep an eye out!
Thank you for reading :) ...

Oxford Castle Unlocked - NOT VALUE FOR MONEY
Advantages: Can't think of any Disadvantages: £7.25 to see very little
The price now is £7.25. It is way too expensive for what it is. I felt really robbed! The guide was completely ignorant of English history and how it fits in with the castle (tower). It was painful! It was raining so the top of the tower was closed. The mound was also closed because of the rain. It rains and half of the attaction is out of bounds??? The crypt is tiny with very little of interest. The audio/video guide system was not working. I was ...

A Case for Glass Cases
Advantages: Eclectic. Interesting. Friendly staff. Free Disadvantages: Dark, odd, information labels hard to read.
...and, more recently, at the Pitt Rivers (billed on their website as a museum of anthropology and world archaeology) in Oxford - an utterly charming, yet slightly odd and eccentric burst of Victoriana in the middle of one of England's most beautiful cities. The splendidly named Henry Lane Fox Pitt Rivers (I ask you, how many names does one man need?) founded this oddity in 1884, according to the small (and free) leaflet I have here in front of me. ... ...excessively monikered Mr Lane Fox Pitt Rivers (which bits are his last name, I'm forced to wonder) mean by 'type'? The objects are arranged by what they do, not where they come from. So you'll find a display cabinet full of items used for smoking, or used against (or for) witchcraft, or to play music on, or to dress up with, or to assist with births...and so on and so on. Some of the (say) tobacco (or other substances) pipes will come from North ...

It's not ABC, it's the Odeon!
Advantages: All the big releases Disadvantages: Very few foreign / independent films
...things first: there *is* no ABC cinema on George St in Oxford, nor on Magdalen St. They're both Odeons, which makes sense because Odeon took over ABC a while back. So if reading this review makes you want to rush out and go to the cinema, don't look for an ABC logo :)
The cinema is very close to the centre of town, so it's very convenient to get to - you can walk. It's also very close to all the Italian restaurants (and various others too) in Oxford, ... ...lobby area (which nevertheless gets VERY full at times), but no seats to sit in while you wait, so don't show up too early - I advise dropping in to buy your tickets and then wandering off to get a coffee elsewhere or look round the shops. There are several screens (I forget exactly how many) which are varying sizes, with varying degrees of comfort and leg room, different sized screens, etc. You never know where you're going to end up until you've ...

MEN IN FEATHERS
Advantages: Close to home if you live near Oxford Disadvantages: Lack of Legroom
...Barry Manilow's Copacabana) at the Oxford Apollo.
This is a review of the Oxford Apollo, because there is no category for Copacabana (BUT you will also get a mini bonus review, just like on DVD!)
This theatre is in the heart of Oxford and was scheduled for refurbishment and re-branding as the NEW Theatre (which it was called before it was renamed Oxford Apollo). It is just a short ride from the Park and Ride and then just around the corner.
I ... ...and Liz Taylor.)
The Oxford Apollo is sadly in need of this facelift! The carpet was in the pattern Cruise Ship Nightmare and the airconditioning only worked in the lobby, or perhaps that was just that they had all the doors open in the interval.
During the intermission, we made a bee-line for ice creams and they had only ONE person at the refreshments and we only guessed at ice cream as there was no sign. Once acquired we positioned ourselves ...
