Five star treatment but five star prices!

Advantages: wonderful hotel
Disadvantages: expensive

We have just returned from a wonderful night staying at the Randolph Hotel (part of the McDonald group) in Oxford. It was the hotel where my husband's work was holding its post Christmas event and we decided to treat ourselves to an overnight stay in the hotel. It was a lovely occasion and I came home feeling thoroughly spoilt. The Randolph is an old hotel in the centre of Oxford. It was actually built in 1864 and although it has been recently refurbished ...
...I was surprised to see when I looked at the websites that it has 151 en-suite rooms because it really does not feel that big. Having said that though, we had to go along a couple of rambling corridors on the third floor to get to our room, and it did feel like a bit of a warren so I guess there were lots of areas of the hotel I was not aware of. The room had all the facilities you would expect in a five star hotel. It wasn't huge but was spacious ...

The Barcelo quite a nice hotelo :)

Advantages: Friendly staff, near bus stop, excellent food, comfy beds
Disadvantages: Long walk to some rooms, price of food if no included

My partner and I stayed here from 16th - 19th april 2009 as we needed somewhere in oxford that wasn't too expensive and we got a great deal as it was Easter time. It cost us £159 for the three nights and this included our breakfast each morning and also a free dinner on the first night. I was a bit worried when we got there that is was a bit far out from the city centre, but thankfully it was just our sat nav being tedious and sending us on the ...
...few minutes drive into the town centre. I will advise though that Oxford is not a very car friendly town, there is hardly anywhere to park and of the small places available it can be quite expensive as most people here use bicycles. I do have to say though Oxford has an excellent bus service and buses run every 15 minutes into town and back and from the stop at the hotel (just across the road) it costs only £3 return per person which is great considering ...

Holiday Inn, Peartree Roundabout, Oxford

Advantages: Modern, great location, excellent facilities
Disadvantages: Can be expensive if not booked through a deal

...for the many deals that Holiday Inn offers on its website or in the national press. I usually pay between £50 and £75 per room per night which includes a substantial breakfast, although the hotel regularly offers a deal over a weekend where you get two nights bed and breakfast and one dinner for two people for approximately £99 per room per night. The Bar The bar is open throughout the day to residents and non-residents alike and tend to get rather ...
...be found in the bar - but at 11pm each night you have to charge drinks to your room number so they leave soon after. Even at its busiest there is always space to sit and the place has a nice relaxing buzz to it. During the day the bar offers a wide selection of snacks and hot food which are no more expensive that you would pay in the city centre. Dining The hotel offers a buffet style breakfast each morning and the generous selection on offer ...

3 Star hotel? Are you kidding me?

Advantages: Close to city centre, cheap compared with other hotels
Disadvantages: Thin walls, poor/no service, no cleaning, cold shower, paltry breakfast

...my parents in Oxford in Victoria House Hotel, seeing that it promised satin and silk and all sorts of luxuries in their website and leaflets, and it was very close to city centre. My parents were VERY unhappy with it and I feel it's important to reflect their views. - Booking the hotel was pretty troublesome. My dad rang twice and I rang twice and finally I got through to the receptionist. His English wasn't very good so it was difficult to get ...
...my questions. I eventually managed to book a room but had to give him my credit card details. - The website promised £69 a night for a double room (2 guests) but when my parents arrived, the surly receptionist pointed to a board on the wall that said £80 a night. When I asked her why the price had changed, she said she didn't know anything about the website. Never mind, my parents had to stay there. To be fair, £80 a night for a double room in Oxford ...

A meeting in Oxford

Advantages: Well located, grand rooms, excellent health suite
Disadvantages: Food slightly dissappointing

This hotel is beautifully located for visiting the city of Oxford laying just between the main A34 and the town centre, which is just a short walk away. Set in lovely grounds, the reception area is welcoming and the staff are highly professional, impeccably dressed and make you feel so very welcome. The hotel has conferencing facilities and meeting rooms which are well serviced and having spent two days of meetings there, everything was delivered ...
...was a lovely morning, they also quickly accommodated our request to take coffee on the patio outside. The rooms were exceptionally large and well equipped –mine had a huge four poster 6 ft bed! There was a large TV with remote, neatly stored away in a lovely cabinet, a mini bar and a large en-suite bathroom with walk in shower, separate bath, WC and two washbasins! Even the sound from the TV was piped into the bathroom, so you could listen to your ...
