Martin Stanton
Advantages: Location, reasonable breakfast, helpful staff Disadvantages: not as good as the hype, tired, needs a good clean & decoration
I made a booking for a couple of nights and fouled up the arrival date, they called me around the time I had said we would arrive and they were very good about it and when we did arrive (a day later) they didn't try to charge me for an extra day, (which they could have done as the foul up was my fault). That aside, don't be fooled by the website that shows the rooms as being modern and trendy, the room we had was basic, poorly decorated with a power ... ...furniture, but overall this is not worth £80 a night. The whole place needs re decorating and a thorough clean ........ suspect the website was created by the previous owners just after the re furnishing had been done ...... it needs doing again ...... noisy rooms at the front too ...... convenient for finding and getting into & out of Oxford, but overall quite dissapointing ..........avoid. ...

Hotel perfect for exploring oxford
Advantages: Lovely hotel full of character Disadvantages: Slightly loud extractor fan in the bathroom!
I stayed in this B&B (Its called a hotel, but i would class it more as a B&B) for 1 night whilst on a business trip, and was not disappointed. I was feeling rather energetic at the end of my first day, and as the sun was still shining I decided to get out my map and walk back to the hotel. It is number 100, Banbury road, and it took me around 20 minutes to walk from the main part of the town, and I foudn it very easily, it was literally just a straight ... ...drive there.
I rung the bell on the reception desk and a very friendly lady took my details and walked me up to my room, which was lovely. It wasn't massively huge, but big enough for me, and they had very kindly upgraded me from a single to a double room for no extra cost because they were quiet on that night, how nice of them! The bed was extremely comfy, and the room was well equipped with a wardrobe, 2 bedside cabinets, full-length mirror, dressing ...

The Other Half...
Advantages: You've never eaten so well Disadvantages: You've never paid so much to eat so well
...Blanc’s famous hotel and restaurant Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons, in Great Milton, Oxfordshire. We also turned this into a celebration of my brother-in-law’s successful completion of the London Marathon in 4 hours and 37 minutes (good on him!)
--------------------------------
Yes, I know…
--------------------------------
…that Le Manoir aux Quat Saisons is a hotel. However, the restaurant is promoted for non-residents, ... ...have tea. Tea at Le Manoir isn’t just a cup of the old PG tips!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Experience
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We were served tea and delicious home made biscuits in one of the lounges (and yes, we did pay extra for the tea, it was not part of the package) – we sat by a bay window. There are three or four rooms (maybe even five) that serve as lounges – some are smoking, some are non-smoking, but they ...

3 Star hotel? Are you kidding me?
Advantages: Close to city centre, cheap compared with other hotels Disadvantages: Thin walls, poor/no service, no cleaning, cold shower, paltry breakfast
...my parents in Oxford in Victoria House Hotel, seeing that it promised satin and silk and all sorts of luxuries in their website and leaflets, and it was very close to city centre. My parents were VERY unhappy with it and I feel it's important to reflect their views.
- Booking the hotel was pretty troublesome. My dad rang twice and I rang twice and finally I got through to the receptionist. His English wasn't very good so it was difficult to get ... ...my questions. I eventually managed to book a room but had to give him my credit card details.
- The website promised £69 a night for a double room (2 guests) but when my parents arrived, the surly receptionist pointed to a board on the wall that said £80 a night. When I asked her why the price had changed, she said she didn't know anything about the website. Never mind, my parents had to stay there. To be fair, £80 a night for a double room in Oxford ...

Further out than you'd think
Advantages: Good if you get a bargain, complimentary breakfast, clean Disadvantages: Outskirts of Oxford, not a great area
...came across the Holiday Inn Express on the outskirts of Oxford. Not only was it near enough to the city centre to get a taxi to, but it also wasn’t that expensive and it was a chain that I’d stayed in before, so I knew roughly what to expect. To add to the bargain we discovered that Holiday Inn Express hotels were included in the list of offers we could get with our Walkers crisps Great Trips points! Yep, the very same points that bought us our visit ... ...a bit. The Holiday Express is really near the Oxford’s Kassam stadium. If you get lost then head for this and you’ll find the hotel right next to it. The hotel had loads of parking when we turned up, but I think it would definitely be worth checking to see if a match was on and time your arrival accordingly! As the hotel is on the outskirts of Oxford, parking is free which is deal. We found a space really near the entrance and headed in with our ...
