Advantages Advantages Lots and lots of shops - you'll be entertained all day long

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very very crowded, smelly, noisy and full of annoying tourists

Have you ever found yourself hypnotically drawn to the bright lights of the West End? A shoppers paradise - endless streams of clothes shops, music shops, book shops, more clothes shops...and...well, the odd sex shop scattered here and there. What more could you want? I will always be envious of those people who head to the West End with a purpose, who march into the right shops at the right times and return home late in the evening laden with bag upon bag of goodies. I normally return frustrated and depressed, either empty handed or, like the last time I went, clutching a minging green beaded ... more

Advantages Advantages Some good shops all in one place

Disadvantages Disadvantages You have to be very cautious

I'm very proud of my parents today. They finally let their 'little girl' make a trip to London on the train with her friends. That's right, no parental supervision, shock horror! After making our quick stop off at Covent Garden, somewhere I am fairly familiar with, my friend suggested that we next make our way to Oxford Street. So off we went back on the tube and came out at Oxford Circus, right in the centre of Oxford Street. Howver, Oxford Street is made of many parts including 'Tottenham Court Road', 'Regent Street', 'Oxford Circus', 'Bond Street' and 'Marble Arch'. With Oxford Circus being ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to get to, lots and lots of shops

Disadvantages Disadvantages Dirty, Smelly, Noisy & Can get very crowded

Oxford street is smelly, dirty and crowded. It is also a great place to shop. One of the best things about shopping on oxford street is that most of the bigger shops eg: Dorothy Perkins have several branches along the length of oxford street so if they don't have what you want in one shop you can pop down to another, or get someone to phone around the other shops for you. Oxford street has all the high street stores as well as numerous independents which are mostly between Totenham court road and Regent Street and several department stores (inc. Selfridges, John Lewis, and Debenhams) between ... more

Advantages Advantages Good choice of stores

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Busy

Oxford Street is a must for all shopaholics. Situated in Central London and adjoining Regent Street it truely is a shoppers dream and an all round great shopping experience. It is always very busy and full of hustle and bustle. I regularly shop here because I love the ambience of the place. There are a huge range of shops from large department stores (my favourite is Selfridges) to smaller specialist shops and street traders. There is plenty to see and my advice is to take a whole day there, that way you won't miss anything. Should hunger get the better of you there are numerous eateries from ... more

Advantages Advantages 1 or 2 decent shops

Disadvantages Disadvantages too many to name

Why why why has oxford street got such a good reputation for shopping? Its really not worth the effort. A lot of the shops are bigger than in other places but thats about all there is going for it. Its packed with tourists the whole time, and at christmas you cant actually move. Its just a big road with a load of shops crowded in. There has been no effort to make it look nice, and even the christmas decorations are sparse to say the least. The place is dirty with the street cleaning machines apparently only serving to move the rubbish and grime around and set on mowing you down when youre ... more
