Cruising by anyones standards can be summed up in a word - luxury. You step onboard these massive liners and think - wow! Having much experience in the cruising market I am amazed at the amount of people who still believe it is a posh persons way of traveling - nothing could be further from the truth.

Lets step back and look at what you get - well it depends on the package you book, however regardless of what cabin you book you will recieve

1. First class service
2. All food included
3. Entertainment
4. A moving 5 star hotel

The whole concept of cruising has changed so much in just the last ten years. They used to be holidays for rich people - so it is understandable why people stereotype the whole industry. Cruising has reduced in price over the last few years and people are finally waking up to the fact that it is an excellent way to travel. You can set sail from any number of destinations for anywhere between 2 days to 80 days. The later cruises are obviously higher in price.
Regardless of what package you book, you will im sure enjoy the cruise. It is by far the best way to travel.
The ship would normally spends a few days at sea and a few in port, the ship would be in port for the day, usually between 0630hrs and 1800hrs. They will sometimes throw in the odd overnight, which is also good fun.
What could be better, relaxing on a beach in Barbados by day and dinning onboard in the evening. Going to bed and walking up the next day in St Lucia. Such an excellent was to think about the whole cruising concept.

Lets have a look at what you will be able to do onboard. Like i said the ships are normally in port durin gthe day and will set sail shortly before dinner. This will normally be to give you a view to remember while you eat.

Dinning wise there will always be plenty available. There are usually a few main dinning rooms and a number of other dinning areas, such as the buffet (usually open 24 hours), some ships even have steakhouse and Italian restaurants for those special occasions (however check to see if cover charges apply).

So lets recap, you have woken up in a beautiful caribbean port, took in some of the sites, spent the afternoon on a beach, had a beautiful 3 course meal, so how will you spend you night - well the choices are endless. The entertainment onboard is second to none.

Now, P & O Cruises is owned by the Carnival Corporation - an American company that bought P & O Cruises about 2 years. Part of P & O is Princess Cruises. Now to deal with the title is cruising really for the Posh - well the truth is it very much depends on the brand you choice.

What do I mean by brand - P & O Cruises is a brand within the carnival corporation, the same as Princess is a brand with the corporation too. As well as the brand you must also consider the ship - what I mean by that is some ships within the P & O fleet are childless, this means that you will only find adults onboard - so there will be no children running around the deck when your trying to top up your tan.

Princess cruises are good for families and if you would like a relaxed holiday they are the brand for you - the ships are amazing, an old cliche but they are actually - floating hotels. Brilliant!!! Although on days at sea the open decks by the pools are very busy so I would recommend you get up early if you want a good spot by the pool.

The crew and entertainment staff work very hard and often work long hours to ensure that your cruise is all you hoped for and passengers often comment on the way in which they were treated by the crew - usually they tell you they can't do enough for you - this is usually true although you sometimes can get poor service.

Both brands Princess and P & O offer fantastic cruises that range from simple 3 night cruises to massive 80 night world cruises. Having been on the latter i can assure you - amazing, and some people sit there and think - im in an enclosed space, i'll get board. Wrong - this can be put down to idle ness, as the crew put on a full and varied program of events from pool games to mini golf (depending on the ship). Most of the P & O ships have golf simulators and a mini golf putting green.

The best thing about cruising is the fact that you will be seeing various countries all from the comfort of the ship. Cruising is a much cheaper way of seeing serveral countries in a short period of time, plus you would be constantly packing up and moving from place to place - onboard you unpack once and go to maybe 6 or 7 different places. Fantastic.

Although that's useful advice on cruises in general, you've posted it under P&O and not mentioned them at all! You'd do better if you updated this review and made it specific to P&O. Alternatively, leave the review as it is, and contact Ciao (info.uk@ciao-uk.com) and ask them to move it to a more appropriate category (i.e. http://www.ciao.co.uk/Member_Advice_on_Cruises__5645960) Hope that helps you, Lexy
