I went on holiday in the easter holidays to Devon Cliffs for a Monday to Friday break and one day we decided to go on a trip to Paignton Zoo.
MY TRIP!
We arrived between 11-12 am and "tried" to find a parking space. All the spaces were took up so we were parked in a over flow car park which was more like a field!! I suppose it wasn't too bad for the Easter holidays. We started to walk down to main reception and i was sooooo glad i had worn my trainers looking at he hills going down to reception!! We finally got down to reception to be greeted by flamingos! We got our tickets plus a guide booklet for £2.50which does seem a bit pricey but was a great help getting us around!! Now it was time to start exploring.....
We got out of the crowded reception and came to something like crossroads! So which way were we to go? We just walked straight ahead! We first came to an aviary which was a giants bird cage we could walk through! Now for people who know me I'm quite a scaredy cat!! so I'll let you decided what i was like in there!! Next up were the
owls and ducks and scary flying things! I swear one was a giant turkey!! But everyone disagreed with me! Next was the part my brother really wanted to see... THE LIONS!!! they were really sweet! Much more sweeter than i could remember! I hadn't been to the zoo in a while and i was expecting to meet some fierce ugly face of teeth!!! Well you don't want to know every animal i saw or we will both be here for hours! Then there was the rest of the forest animals. like orangutans, Bongos, Gorillas, more birds and more monkeys!
Then we came to some lovely lakes with a restaurant so we stopped for lunch! There was a great menu which would suit anyone! I had a vegetable burger with salad and chips and i thought it was really nice! And filling! The rest of my family had roast dinners and sausage and chips! Which did look edible too! There was for some reason peacocks roaming around!! odd really!
Next we went to the PRIMLEY section where they had animals such as sloths, bats, kangaroos, Giant tortoises, more monkeys, red pandas..
Next, which i didn't find too interesting, was the PLANTS :o| they had rare plants for everyone to look at! Ooooooo interesting! Lol! Next along was the DESERT where they had elephants, giraffes, lizard and tortoises, camels (rock on camels!!) and desert birds. Then we somehow managed to loop ourselves backup to the SAVANNAH bit!! where we saw Rhinos, Zebras, Cheetahs, red river hogs, bison ....
Next we kept walking trying to find the loo's! As all of us needed the loo! So we went all the way through the Lemur wood which was a giant area full of Lemurs! I was scared! Again! And we tried to get over a wobbly bridge and people kept wobbling it! It was over a river as well! There were people trying to get over with pushchairs and you name it! Everyone was screaming! Bit of a mistake really!! Next we moved onto the avian breeding centre which we didnt really take any notice of it was the closest place to the loo's! We sat at a picnic bench and got drinks. We decided to start to work towards the end!
By this time we were aching sooooooo much! My legs were sore! We took our last look at the Desert and Reptile houses which were like giant greenhouses! And very warm! They had snakes and spiders and crocodiles in them:os but also poisonous plants! It said do not touch everywhere i was panicking in case i touched one!!!!
We next tried to find the Gift shop to buy something "quickly" but with me and my brother that was impossible!! it took us half an hour!! i got a pencil case, a pencil and a pen for £12 and my brother got a monkey cuddly toy! By this time the rest of my family was getting soaked as it was raining! So we made our selves back up those long hills to the car!!! EXRA STUFF WE MISSED we missed loads of animals and parts of the zoo but we needed more time really we had to get back to our caravan site and it was starting to get dark! There was also a train which took you on a tour of the whole zoo which would of been fun if we had time!! There was little snack shops around everywhere that sold ice-creams! And swing parks and inside soft play areas so the day could have been ever lasting!!

IS IT SUITIBLE FOR DISABLED VISTORS? I would say it was as my younger brother is disabled and it seemed to be fine getting him around in his disabled push chair so i think it would be OK to get a wheelchair around. There are ramps as well as steps everywhere.
DO I RECOMMEND IT? Yes i would recommend it even though it is quite far away from where i am! But i think the travelling isn't the problem really! Its a great zoo with loads of animals and some i had never seen before!! Its great for all ages and i think everyone would enjoy it even the the old boring farts!!!!!!! and my tip is to WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES!! its very tiring!
I never bothered with the zoo much but now i've got a little boy i am now getting a yearly membership card to get him in so we've got somewhere to go if we want something to do. Good review

Been to Paignton a few times before, but never been to their zoo - should probably try this out next time we're around. Great review, thanks for that. Sal x
