Crossroads of the Mediterranean

Advantages: Cultural diversity, historical interest, weather, food
Disadvantages: Can be difficult to navigate!

...

Palermo as the capital of Sicily has come down a peg or two over the course of history, being, at one time the capital of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies before the Bourbons transferred themselves to Naples.

But the vestiges of a regal past are very much evident in the old Sicilian capital. The most notable site being the Norman Palace at the gate of the Porta Nuova. It is possible to enter the palace to see the Royal ...
...main areas to see in Palermo are the Teatro Massimo, the wonderful opera house. It is very easy and cheap to buy tickets there in the opera season. i went to a ballet for four euros and an opera for five euros and even if you hate the art form, it is worth it to see the amazing interior and to sweep down the external staircase!

The catacombs in Palermo are quite unique and very different from their Roman or Neapolitan counterparts! ... more

I advice to visit palermo because it is the capital of the city and all the beauty of the island is reflected in it. i would speacially recomend it to ancient stuff lovers and people who enjoys having a sun holidays summer mixed with some culturals day trip through the schedule. i would point out the principal caracteristics of the island: -you can see the sea from mostly any point in the city. -it has some of the most amazing museums about ...

Go to Vucciria

Advantages: Good food
Disadvantages: Can be dangerous

I visited Palermo twice, the first time for few hours and the second time for 2 days, guest of a colleague of mine. The memories I have from my first visit (we arrived by boat and where meant to go somewhere else in Sicily) is of a messy town, with a relatively ugly outskirt. The memories of my second visit are much more livelier. I visited the famous market of Vucciria and lived with locals for 2 days. I had superb food! Plenty of fish and delicious ...

Auto-Europe - Never Again

Advantages: None that I can think of
Disadvantages: Customer Services were appallingly unhelpful

This company is okay - as long as you don't have a problem. But the first time you run into any sort of trouble at all - you'll never want to use them again. The Customer Service staff are "long on courtesy, short on service". It's all very polite, but they can't do anything. They can't take decisions. They certainly can't arrange to fix or replace a broken car. They have a "best price guarantee" - which I tried to apply; but which, in the end, proved impossible for them to deal with - and it's their guarantee! I've used them in Italy,. and everything went fine. Cheap, efficient, and I was very happy. But nothing went wrong. This time, in Spain, they proved completely incapable of sorting the slightest problem. They don't use their own vehicles; and so you have to rely on their chosen "partners". Obviously, in Italy, they have ...

Want to Roam around Rome? - Stay Here!

Advantages: Location, Price and Staff
Disadvantages: Nothing, It is what it is!

I recently went on a trip to Rome, my first trip in fact to Italy, I love culture and history so this city was a must on my list. Oh and it's the year of the 'I' - the year in which I visit countries beginning with I, so far I've been, Ireland, Iceland and now Italy. Location ********* The Clarin Hotel is a 2 star hotel situated in Via Palermo, a street central to the city centre although on the Eastern side, and approximately a 5 minute walk from Termini Station and a 10-12 minute walk to the Coliseum and many other attractions. I would recommend getting the train from the airport (either of them) to Termini Station as the hotel is 2 roads away from the station, and as long as your case has wheels or bag isn't heavy you'll be fine walking it. How, where and why to book ******************************** I ended up ...

A Culinary Journey Through Italy

Advantages: Wonderful cuisine;Great Wines; Great Cheese;
Disadvantages: Can be expensive

of barbecued suckling pig, wild boar and lamb. Other Sardinian specialitie include zuppe quata - a savoury bread dish with cheese and tomato sauce -and carta da musica, which is wafer thin bread, eaten with olive oil and salt. The old part of the city, built on a hill overlooking the port is very attractive and contains some fine eating places. The old Sicilian capital of Palermo is one of the big cities of Italy, and as regards sightseeing interest, ranks below only Rome, Venice and Florence. Palermo is well known on the gastronomic map of Italy for pasta con sarde-spaghetti with sardine sauce -spiedino alla siciliana , kebab and superb marzipan sweets and ice cream. Dishes described Alla Siciliana usually means with capers, red peppers, tomatoes, onions and herbs ...
