Cruising in the Grenadines

Advantages: Unspoilt, beautiful beaches, uninhabited islands
Disadvantages: Remote, hard to get around without a boat

This chain of islands forms part of the Windward Islands, stretching between Grenada and St Vincent. You really need to be on a boat to see them properly. We chartered a yacht from The Moorings and sailed around the islands for 10 blissful days. We started at Canouan, in the middle of the chain, and visited: Bequia - a sheltered harbour with great bars and restaurants, and a wonderful turtle sanctuary Mustique - playground of the rich and famous, hired a golf buggy to tour the island Petit St Vincent - great snorkelling and my favourite place on earth: Tobago Cays - five small uninhabited islands within Horseshoe Reef, the only thing between you and Africa! Wonderful snorkelling, incredible beaches and hardly anyone around - maybe another yacht or two. Every day the local boys come round in their boats and offer to sell you fresh ...

Review of General: St Vincent and the Grenadines

If God had meant us to float...

Advantages: Scenery, beaches, people, coral reefs, boats, sea life
Disadvantages: Expensive, not for people who don't like boats

, retiring to bed as the afflicted huddled together in panic and desperation on the restaurant floor. For an hour or so I was a submariner in Mauritius. I've glided over stunning tropical reefs in glass bottomed boats more times than I've visited the dentist in the last ten years. Admittedly, this last excursion is usually employed as an excuse to avoid the "colourful and vibrant" local market. Translation: "colourful and vibrant" means noisy, dirty, overcrowded, and full of scheming locals keen to relieve you of your holiday money. I realise, writing this, that I have had a little more experience than I first thought of boats. Meagre, perhaps above average. But nothing prepared me for 3 days on a sailing boat. St Vincent and The Grenadines was the spot. A lovely spot it is too. Set in the Caribbean Sea, the island of St Vincent is used my ...

Review of General: St Vincent and the Grenadines

Palm Island.......Pure Bliss!!!

Advantages: Pure Unspoilt Paradise
Disadvantages: Having to leave at the end of your holiday!

Your journey to paradise starts at Barbados airport. You board an eight seater plane to Union Island. The journey itself takes about an hour and is an experience. The views as you travel are amazing as you fly over the Grenadine islands. On arrival at Union Island you are welcomed and the Customs Officer shakes your hand. A small car collects you and takes you down to the harbour. From there it is a ten minute boat ride to Palm Island. On arrival you are greeted on the jetty by the General Manager, Guest Relations and a Barman with a strong Rum Punch! You are given basic details and advised that you can check in the following morning. First impressions are confirmed that you are in paradise. The sea is turquoise and the beach white. It is almost deserted with very few people on the beach. We had a beachfront room which had great ...
