Your journey to paradise starts at Barbados airport. You board an eight seater plane to Union Island. The journey itself takes about an hour and is an experience. The views as you travel are amazing as you fly over the Grenadine islands. On arrival at Union Island you are welcomed and the Customs Officer shakes your hand. A small car collects you and takes you down to the harbour. From there it is a ten minute boat ride to Palm Island. On arrival you are greeted on the jetty by the General Manager, Guest Relations and a Barman with a strong Rum Punch! You are given basic details and advised that you can check in the following morning.
First impressions are confirmed that you are in paradise. The sea is turquoise and the beach white. It is almost deserted with very few people on the beach. We had a beachfront room which had great views. The rooms were spacious and the bathroom huge! The mini bar in the fridge is filled up daily with a good range of beverages. There is no tv or telephone in the room. If you want a tv there is a room in the middle of the island which happens to be the coolest room on the island, there is also high speed internet at no extra cost. The air conditioning in the room was not the greatest. In the two weeks we were there it never dropped below 80 c. The breeze from the sea helped to alleviate the heat slightly and there was also a fan . The rooms are cleaned to a high standard every morning.
The food is excellent and a massive choice. Breakfast is a buffet style with a choice of hot eggs etc. Lunch is served at both the bars. The garlic bread is a must at the Sunset Bar. The dinner menu was not the same for the two weeks we were there. If you are a honeymooner you can have your dinner on the beach at "The Heart Tree" (a tree in the shape of a heart covered in fairy lights)with your own waiter. You have to dress for dinner. Men wear shirts with collars. No Swimsuits are allowed in the bar after six. There is a bar-b-que every Friday which is fantastic. A great choice of food with a steel drum band playing anything from Bob Marley to the latest tunes.
There isn`t much entertainment at nights, but you find that you mix with the other guests on the island around the bar. Although the island can accommodate 60 people it never felt busy or overcrowded. There is a Managers Cocktail night once a week where you get to meet the only residents of the island, a Doctor his wife and young girls.
The bar is the place to be at night. Jason is a wiz with both the cocktails and the magic tricks. The "Cocoloco`s" and "Lady Palm`s" are very moreish! Stay away from the "Don`t Worry Be Happy`s". They are guarranteed to turn you brains to mush and leave you unable to co ordinate any part of your body.
The beach is clean and sometimes it can feel like you are the only one on it. The sea is warm. There is a golf course on the middle of the island. You can hire bikes and ride round the island......will probably take half an hour. There are hammocks placed around the island which you can have a picnic delivered to.
The snorkelling is good as there are lots of reefs around the island. We saw reef shark, stingray, puffa fish and lots more just in the reef off the island. The scuba diving was fantastic. Saw shark, lobster, turtles, congar eels, rays, sea cucumbers and conch.
Definate must dos: Tobago Cays - Horseshoe reef especially for diving and snorkelling. Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed here. Scaramouche - A schooner used in the Pirates of the Caribbean. A daytrip around the islands of The Grenadines, lunch and snorkelling. A great day out seeing the sights. Sunset Cruise - Sipping champagne on a sail boat watching the sun go down. Happy Island - a five minute boat ride to a bar in the middle of the sea made out of conch shells. The owner is a character and makes a mean rum punch. He just makes the bill up at the end of your visit.
The staff are fantastic. They are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. They enjoy having guests who enjoy a good time and will get up and have a dance with the guests at any opportunity!
This was our honeymoon and was a great start to our marriage. We both felt rested and chilled after our stay.
Advantages: Pure paradise Disadvantages: it's pure paradise
What can i say apart from pure paradise. From the moment you step off the boat onto the jetty and greeted by the staff with a rum punch and a warm welcome you know you don't want to leave. 2 weeks is not enough time in this paradise, The Island is small and you can walk round in half a day. All 5 beaches are small and have lovely white soft sand. The sea is so clear you just want to dive in and swim. This island is somewhere you go to relax and to ... ...aren't and disco's or large loud bars just the piece and quiet of sea and the fresh sea air. The local wild life is amazing no dangerous creatures. There are a few lizards and loads of wild birds including some humming birds. If you do go to this paradise go to Doc's gallery and see his art work. We had to buy the dolphins picture it was so realistic. The island is not too far away from where they filmed pirates of the Caribbean and one of the boats ...

Advantages: great location from which to explore Dubai. complimentary bus service. Disadvantages: beach is a bus ride away.
bus service to Jebel Ali. Near to this is the famous Jebel Ali PalmIsland, similar to the other famous Jumeriah PalmIsland, where Beckham and a few other England football Players have bougth a villa.
You get a voucher from the concierge desk. It is a 20 minute drive and you get towels when you get there and can use any of Jebel Ali?s facilities. The beach is amazing ? white sand, blue sea. Just make sure you get on the bus back. I think the last bus was about 6pm.
We had complimentary breakfast every morning in the dunes café. There is plenty of choice - a buffet of fresh fruit, continental cooked breakfast. There is a chef who makes your eggs just how you like them. Since this is a Muslim country and they do not eat pork, the sausages are made of chicken and the bacon made of veal.
Room Service is available 24 hours and offers ...

Le Meridien Mina Seyahi, Dubai
--------------------------------------------
There are several Le Meridien Hotels in Dubai, but we found the Mina Seyahi on Jumeriah Beach to be one of the best. We stayed there for the first week of our honeymoon in the summer of 2002.
Le Meridien Mina Seyahi is a relatively new 5 * hotel about 30 minutes drive outside of the city centre of Dubai. It stands on the shores of the Arabian Gulf beside the magnificent Jumeriah Beach. The hotel is part of the new international marina complex, which is located adjacent to the hotel on the left hand side. To the right of the hotel is the new PalmIsland development; a man-made peninsula stretching out to sea, made of sand, in the shape of a palm tree. It is a modern complex of houses and apartments and is one of the few man-made structures on earth, which ...
Advantages: Very stylish, beautiful surroundings, own beach, highly qualified and friendly staff, free shuttle busses to shopping malls Disadvantages: Alcohol expensive, construction work in area
of Romance and Warmth..
However it is a disadvantage that alcohol is very expensive due to the Religion. And there is a lot of construction work going on in the area. Not only here but in Dubai in general. In March we could hear the construction work going on for the PalmIsland. It's a pity that they're building it so close to the Royal Mirage and the Burj Al Arab.
But if you're looking for an exclusive hotel, with high standards, excellent food, great shopping malls in the area, a lot of luxury and a good pampering, then I can definitely recommend it! ...
