Seeing as ive just done a report on my actual holiday, and my travel insurance, i thought id finish it off with a review of out destination airport.
ARRIVING :-)
On touchdown, we saw the little trucks rushing to offload us as quickly as possible, the stair trucks were first followed swiftly by the bagguage, refuelling truck and the transfer bus.
This was a good start i thought, very efficient indeed, after a 2 hours 20 minutes flight you dont want to be hanging about on the plane waiting.
So down the stairs we went, and onto the transfer bus to the airport building itself, the bus wasnt anything to shout about, very
little seating and as most people had to stand up we were bobbing about to and fro as we went round the bends, this only lasted 5 minutes, so we could put up with this, but i wouldnt like to have been there any longer.
As we all shuffled into the airport terminal building itself, we went through customs in single file, and each showed our passports, they only very quickly looked at each person and scooted us through quick as possible.
Now it was a long walk to get our lugguage, this took a good 10 minutes, and i felt abit like a sheep being herded along, there wasnt any screens telling us which carousel our lugguage would be on so we just had to keep walking til we came across the name of the airport we had just come from.
So we eventually found our lugguage at the 2nd to last carousel, it came off within a minute of us arriving there, after we got our lugguage we didnt mind the long walk, as we were at the exit already.
The airport itself was very large and spacious, which considering the amount of people using it was good, the decor was very basic, tiled floors, walls were blank, but on the whole the place was clean although not very well lit.
DEPARTURE :-(
The end of the holiday has arrived, and so quickly.
The road network is rather good around mallorca now, and is getting better all the time, the route we travelled from to get to the airport, was coming in from the north of the island.
A quick word of warning, if travelling in from this direction, make sure you are careful which sign you follow for the airport, as 1 of the signs says airport, but it actually for the freight terminal and not the passenger terminal.
This was a more pleasant experience, as soon as we walked into the airport there was a screen to tell us which check in desk to goto, which handly was near enough right in front of us.
Check in was fast as you like, we had to wait for a few minutes as we had arrived early and the check in desk wasnt actually open yet.
There are the usual shops, duty free, paper shops etc, aswell as a couple of places to grab a bite to eat, we decided to get as close to the gate and eat up there from a little kiosk, that sold baguettes, crisps and the usual beverages such as tea, coffee and pop. In total it cost 12 euros (£8) for 2 baguettes, 2 bags of crisps a bottle of water and a coffee.
The stairs to go upto the departure area was only a 10 second walk away, this is where the long walk began, seeing as we were flying with bmi baby, we get the gates furthest away from check in.
Although there was a few escalator type treadmills along the way, some of these wernt actually working for maintenence reasons, again the building was quite gloomy in parts as there wasnt any windows alot of the time, and a few areas were coned off as some areas of the floor were being re-tiled.
This wouldnt put us off going again, it passed abit of the time before flying, and by the time we had a bite to eat and a drink it was only 10 or so minutes til the gate was opened, and we were allowed to board the plane, it was just down 1 flight of stairs onto the bus, then onto the plane again.
In conclusion, it was as nice and as pleasing on the eye as the uk airport we had just come from, but at the end of the day, all you want to do is get your bags and be whisked off to your resort, with this in mind (and seeing as this is the airport in palma) i would use this airport again, i wouldnt be put off by what ive said in this report, it was enjoyable.
This makes the whole holiday more enjoyable as a whole.
Happy flying dave
