Our trip started at Glasgow Airport and we arrived in Palma 2 hours and 20 minutes later. We arrived at 7-30pm and after the long walk through the airport to collect our luggage, we got a taxi to our accommodation. This took around 40 minutes and cost us 34 euros (we later, on our return taxi to airport realised that we'd been taken the long route as the return journey took around 30 mins and cost us 22 euros!). Our accommodation was rented privately through a friend who owns an appartment so we were able to save on accommodation costs.
We used the bus service a lot. Regular buses go all over the island and are very reasonably priced. We travelled to various destinations on the island (Palma, Santa Ponca, Magaluf) and never paid any more than 1 euro 15 cents each. Buses are well-maintained and spotlessly clean.

You can go out on the glass-bottomed boat, one drink and snacks provided on all trips from memory. You can choose from a short trip lasting around 2 hours or an all-day one which takes you into a couple of different ports before returning. Prices start at around 13 euros. Pedalos, and a variety of water-sports are available here also. The beach is fabulous and very beautiful although we didn't use it much as we are not sunbathers!
We spent several days in Palma (city) as we loved the old buildings and has so many shops. We discovered the 'old town' by accident really. You can get here by walking up the hill at the side of the cathedral. This is the Sa Calatrava area which is to the east. It has the lovely little narrow streets full of every type of shop possible so is a shopper's haven! There are several squares with cafes etc so you can always find somewhere to sit and chill for a while. Markets are held in the squares on specific days. To the west side of Palma, is the newer part of the city, which is very nice also but for us, the beauty of the city was the older part. The bus picks up and drops off from a point just across from the cathedral.
Santa Ponca is perfect if you're looking for a beach holiday. Fabulous beach, again in a beautiful bay setting and very very beautiful. Smaller than Palma Nova but still has a range of shops, restaurants etc. Again, very clean as most places were that we visited. We loved it here but as we're not sunbathers, this is probably not the best location for us. Bus trip from Palma Nova to here is roughly 20 mins.
Magaluf......what can I say?......we hated it here. In fact, we stayed for around 10 mins and walked back into Palma Nova which doesn't take long at all. Very rundown and grotty. We didn't see anything attractive about the place at all. As it is mostly aimed at 18 to maybe 25 year olds who are looking for the nightlife, it is probably a good base for younger holidaymakers but being 40-something, it was not the place for us!
We also took a trip to Soller on the beautiful vintage train (around 6 euros each ). The train journey (around 90 minutes)was very nice and the scenery was fabulous. The train leaves from the station in the city (Palma) and makes its way along the streets with its horns and whistles blowing. Soller is up in the mountains, orange grove country and you haven't tried orange juice till you've tried theirs! Not a great deal to do but nice to see. If you go, don't go on a saturday as all the shops close at 1-30pm so there's really not a lot else to do except sit in the square and eat and drink. There are lots of little restaurants around the square and you can sit inside or out under umbrellas. You can also take the tram from here which takes you to Port de Soller for around 2 euros.
The weather was just perfect for us when we went, averaging 26 degrees during the day, getting quite cool at night. Three rainy days in the 15 days we were there, one was torrential but didn't spoil the holiday. We loved it so much, we're going back again next year.
A couple of restaurants we'd definately recommend are Churchill's restaurant in Son Caliu, just down the street from Martha appartments. You can sit inside or out and they do a really lovely 3-course meal for 14 euros, complete with a jug of Sangria or a bottle of wine (your choice), The waiters are very pleasant with a great sense of humour, service is excellent. Free shot of schnapps at the end of the night! We ate here a few times.
We discovered the Ponent Mar which can be found by walking up the little street at the far end of the prom, near the chinese restaurant. This restaurant is located within the Ponent Mar hotel and offers a fabulous 3-course buffet for 12.40 euros. We found nothing to match this anywhere. The food was fabulous and the selection was vast and obviously prepared by excellent chefs. We just wished we'd found it sooner and can't wait to go back. For this price, you also get a bottle of their own wine which is gorgeous. We couldn't understand how they can offer such fantastic value for money, but they do so take the time to visit this one if you go to Palma Nova.
The only restaurant we didn't like was the La Cacaracha (Mexican) which is located on the prom, across from McDonalds. We were so looking forward to eating here as the menu sounded lovely but it was the worst meal we had! Very small portions, like starter size, and very rushed. We wouldn't go back.
We went for a relaxing break and we certainly got that. I can honestly say it was the best holiday we've had to date. I'd recommend Palma Nova to anyone whether you're looking for a relaxing time or an action-packed holiday. Suitable for all age groups and that's what makes it attractive, apart from the weather, scenery, etc.
Advantages: Nice beaches good and quiet for young and old, couples and familys. Disadvantages: Pricey from july to start of december can be alittle too quiet for young couples.
I went to Palma in august this year on my honeymoon. It was great i really enjoyed the holiday. It was my first time abroard and also my first flight. The flight was quite short so for all of those who are not keen on flying, this is a good choice. The flight took two hours when we arrived at palma airport(the airport is huge) you got outside and at two in the morning the heat was still there. We got a taxi transfer from the airport to our hotel ... ...morning, and given the fact Palma Nova is approxamatly 40 minutes from the airport this was the easiest way. our flight was through thomson but shop about to get the best deal. our transfer was connected with the hotel which was through Med Hotels.
We arrived at the hotel which was the Residential Vora Nova it was bright modern and on first impressions very nice. we took our cases to our room our room had a nice balcony overlooking a lovely, large ...

Advantages: A lovely and very relaxing small city.Beautiful and fantastic beaches. Disadvantages: Not all shops quite open yet. A bit dissappointed with a road work contraction.can be really noisy and disturbing.
Well, just returned from Palma Nova, Mallorca yesterday, on Feb 19...been there for a week. Really had a great and fantastic time. Booked a package from Thomas Cook. Valued for money with all inclusive (flight+self-catering apartment) only £360 for three person was excellent.
Myself and two mates stayed at the Aquasol. Very clean and basic, with a lovely powerful shower. maids came often with new sheets, toilet roll etc. The only complaint was the ... ...You can go to the Palma Nova beach or Magalluf beach. very clean. Good 5 to 10 minute walk into Magaluf. Full credit to Andy and Yvonne the entertainer. Those two really were really funny. Played bingo everynight and won one time only. That thing was so addicted.hahah.
At this moment Palma Nova not as busy as summer time. At times can be totally dead. Only half of the shops, restaurants and hotels were open and some of the them were under refurbished. ...

...week in the resort of Palma Nova on the south of the island.
Palma Nova has recently had a fantastic new promenade built, it's really attractive and in local stone. They have been careful to keep the existing palm trees in place and there are plenty of cafes and seats along the way. It runs from one end of Palma Nova to the beginning of Magaluf right along the bay. The resort is a good place for anyone elderly or if you have young children as it's ... ...and reliable bus service into Palma and neighbouring resorts and regular boat trips to both Palma and different beaches. The beach itself at Palma Nova is magnificent, spotlessly clean and the sort of sand you see in the holiday ads! The sea is constantly cleaned as well, by a guy in a pedalo with a strainer on the front which picks up any debris. The beach is cleaned every night and I didn't see any dirt on it at any time.
There are plenty of sunbeds ...

I've been to palma nova several times and i love it.
If you looking for a nice quiet holiday this is the place, theres things to do though as well, plenty of shops, and nice bars, usually with some sort of music every night, if you want abit of nightlife, maguluf is just down the road if you want some clubbing? personally i didn't like maguluf because the people who work at the bars are stood outside mithering you to come in.
There is one trip ... ...place, the first was a market, which was quite good if you like getting a bargain etc, then the was a ceramics shop, and then a town before the caves of darch, which is nice, you walk down lots of stairs, then you sit in a room, where there is a romantic show on water, and los of lights going off. ...

Advantages: Clean beach, plenty of bars. Disadvantages: Lack of local food.
We have just returned from Palma Nova and had a good time. The resort has a wealth of bars and restaurants so there's plenty of choice. There was a mix of ages although the top end, towards Magaluf seemed to cater mainly for the younger 18-30 groups, with bars that stayed open until 6am. As a pair of 40 something lightweights, however, we were happy to stay at the quieter end!!!!! The prices are reasonable and most bars seemed to have a happy hour ... ...is close enough to get to.
The beach at Palma Nova is spotless and there are lifeguards. There are a range of activities including pedaloes, banana boats, jet skis and parascending. Overall we enjoyed staying at Palma Nova but would probably go further north next time. ...

Advantages: Cheap and Cheerful Disadvantages: Not much soundproofing
As many of you know I was lucky enough to be given a holiday as part of my Christmas so I thought I would share with you where we stayed. We left on the 19th of January for one week half board in the three star hotel D'Or Tobago PalmaNovaMajorca. The hotel is on nine floors and has 198 twin/ triple rooms catering for approximately 416 people when full. It is situated on a slight hill 50 metres from the beach and every room has a sea view there are no rooms to the back of the hotel. I believe the area we were in is actually Torre nova which is on the hill between PalmaNova and Magaluf.

The Reception
On arrival we went into a very large and airy reception area which was painted yellow and had lots of green sofas, glass coffee tables and potted plants the mirrors on the walls and pillars made it seem even larger. There were ...
Advantages: lovely apartment, nice pool, great location Disadvantages: it wasn't cheap
by the beach rather than staying by the pool, we decided this was a bit dodgy, so opted for the next cheapest apartments - Marthas, in Palmanova.
We made the mistake (or not) of only looking at the reviews for Marthas after we had booked and paid our money. Basically all reviews pre-2008 or so stated that the place was AWFUL, but apparently the apartments had been renovated around about that time and were brilliant now. We weren't really sure WHAT to believe but it was a done deal now. We'd chosen, whether we liked it or not, this is where we were staying...
****THE LOCATION****
Palmanova is located on the Balearic island of Majorca between the capital Palma and the notorious party resort of Magaluf. It is a busy, popular resort in its own right but far quieter and calmer than Magaluf - thank goodness! (I'm a bit old for those kind ...
Advantages: Dirty, old, only cleaned once a week Disadvantages: The pool
The Voranova hotel was about half an hour from the airport and cost about 25euros, split between two, so wasn't too bad as the hotel transfer coach you could also book cost as much together and took about 2 hours stopping at every hotel that existed!
The hotel was in a good location, a few minutes walking distance from PalmaNova town centre and the beach. It was also about 10-15minutes walk to the centre of Magaluf. We got a bus to Palma City one day and this took about 45 minutes and was very crowded.
Just across the road from the hotel was a large supermarket and several shops including a pharmacy, there was also a taxi rank and bus stop.
The hotel being in PalmaNova rather than Magaluf was good as it wasn't too noisy and busy at night. There were plenty of small bars and resturants in PalmaNova. The hotel also had ...
