Pantheon & Piazza della Rotonda, Rome

The Pantheon was one of the things in Rome that was high on my to-do list although I’m not too sure why. I knew that it had something to do with the Gods and for me that was enough to want to see it. Getting there The main problem with the Pantheon is getting there. It is not near any metro stop and the closest is Barberini although this is still a 10-15 minute walk away. Introduction What is Rome still a beautiful city! For seven days I was in Rome. The whole town is really just as a big museum. While walking in the center of Rome you just see so much. The Pantheon in the historic centre of rome is a must on any itinerary for a visit to Rome. It was originally built by the Emperor Adriano (Hadrian) as a temple to all the gods. The architecture is stunning. The entrance is through two massive bronze doors, each weighing many tons, that in its day were the largest doors ever made. What a place. Imagine the trouble the Romans took to build this domed building 2000 years ago! The dome is huge and it must have been quite a sight to see even back then! It is quite beautiful and if you do bear in mind the fact that they didn't have cranes and such it is quite a feat of engineering. It also kind of looks bigger from the inside than out, and there is a strange opening at the top of the dome, as if they decided that they couldn't fill the hole!
