Advantages: Loads to do, very hot in summer, drives on the same side of the road as the UK Disadvantages: Main resort area very English,
...for around £90 and it is easy to pick up cars for rent even in the peak season).
A hire car allows you to see the whole of the South (visiting the North -Turkish owned - isn't allowed due to border controls if you have visited the South of the island). The Troodos mountains (see my opinion) are well worth the tiring and hot drive (the locals don't really stick to their side of the road either!). They drive on the left so it really feels home from home (and you don't get muddled at roundabouts!). To really see many of the sites, you really do need a car. Although the buses are good, cheap and mainly used by tourists, they are very often crowded and do not take the back roads.
Also, make time to visit one of the Aqua parks in Limossol. They make an excellent day out for about £15 and are really easy to get to from Paphos (don't bother...

Advantages: Charming combination of the old and the new give this resort something for everyone. Disadvantages: Heat oppressive at height of summer. Some areas rather loud and built up
...with a small engine (and the recommended air-conditioning) will set you back around £300 to £400 for a fortnight. Perhaps that's why so many tourists opt for bikes or scooter hire whilst there. Quad bikes were readily available to hire throughout Paphos, but quiet they aren't!

Advantages: clean, friendly and great value for money. Disadvantages: The main touristy areas can be concrete cities.

I would recommend visiting some of the samilar villages on the island for example Pissouri which offer a quieter way of life.
The main village of Pissouri lies in the hills well above the pissouri bay. The village life is centered around the village square which has cafes, bars, resturants, local supermarket. On a Wednesday night the village has a cypriot night which is well worth going to locals and tourists mix, buffet food is put on, and their is a show of local dances. The villagers area all friendly and speak good english. The village roads are small and winding and i would recommend a small car. Driving is, however, easy and the road system...
