4 Stars Portrait of Paphos Review with images 15/09/2007

Advantages Advantages Charming combination of the old and the new give this resort something for everyone.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Heat oppressive at height of summer. Some areas rather loud and built up

Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean situated to the extreme North East of this sea. Cyprus can be described as the meeting point of three continents - Europe, Asia and Africa, and this is certainly reflected in the Cypriot heritage of architecture, food and people. This was my third visit to Cyprus, the previous two stays having both been in Larnaca. This time we decided we'd like to experience more of the south-west of the island, so we opted for a fortnight in Paphos. ~*~ GETTING THERE AND GETTING AROUND ~*~ Flights from the UK to Paphos International Airport take around ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Sprawling, time share touts and expensive

Tourism didn't arrive in the small town of Paphos until the 1980's and I didn't arrive until December 2007. It was Christmas and I wanted to see my son who was based in Athens at the time. As I didn't really fancy spending Xmas in a bustling, over-crowded and polluted city like Athens, I chose to visit Cyprus and meet up with him there. I remember walking to the coach which was waiting outside the airport to take us on to Pathos and thinking this place looks a bit run down. I could see the sea in the background so I felt a little more cheerful but part of me kept thinking - perhaps I should ... more

I have never written a travel review before, and to be honest, haven’t really read that many either. Therefore, I’m not really sure of the customary layout, so I’m going to do mine in the form of a holiday diary. Last week, my boyfriend and I went on holiday to Cyprus. We had been planning to go away at this time for a couple of months, and looked at a number of places. We had wanted to stay in a villa or apartment rather than a hotel, so our search for where to go was limited really to people we knew who owned and rented out apartments. My boyfriend’s dad then told us about a guy who worked ... more

5 Stars Paphos for all season Holidays. Review with images 07/03/2008
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages It is very friendly, drive on the Left hand side, and mostly speak English

Disadvantages Disadvantages You can't lay on the beaches in the winter, and the evenings are cold.

I have just returned home after a couple of weeks in Paphos. This is my seventh visit to Paphos over 3 years. This time it was very different. Being my first visit since Cyprus changed over to Euros in Jan 2008, I was amazed to notice the changes that had already been made. The Harbour had changed almost beyond recognition. For those of you who have already visited this area, you are in for a shock of delight. The harbour sea front has now gone pedestrian. Gone the noisy buses, the taxis parked all along the sea front. the shabby little shops have now been replaced with smart boutiques and ... more

Gulp! I thought we had wandered into a Grey Big Belly convention by mistake. I felt so inadequate. I tried expanding my tummy as I sat down but, no matter what I did, it seemed nothing in comparison to the gentleman sitting next to me. He had on a tight blue vest emblazoned with the words 'U.S. Athletics' that showed off his wobbly expanse to perfection. This was further enhanced by baggy white shorts and matching legs that tapered tantalisingly into grey socks and sandals. As I looked around at the dozen unsmiling faces in walked the holiday rep all blonde, blue eyed and suntanned. I mean ... more
