... This time we decided we'd like to experience more of the south-west of the island, so we opted for a fortnight in Paphos.

Paphos International Airport is quite small and it has to be said, seems to have some difficulty coping with the amount of traffic it has to deal with. The queue to get through customs and passport control was quite vast and rather slow moving. However, in general the airport was clean and efficient, and only a fifteen minute drive away from Paphos itself. Nearby construction work does indicate upgraded facilities are ...

Advantages: Friendly people, cheap food, great atmosphere, hot! Disadvantages: perhaps too touristy, and will become more so in time
...have a lot of choice. Paphos Airport is relatively small, with currently only two runways (I am told that they are probably going to build a third). This means there is not an abundance of available flights, and it is hard to find ones at perfect times. We decided to look for a flight that we could get late Wednesday so we would arrive ... ...difference this got us into Paphos at 01.30. Going home, our flight left at 22.30, getting us into the UK again at 01.15.
This time, we had no problems with our flight and got to Paphos exactly on time. A taxi had been arranged to take us to an apartment, and we shared this with another guy who was going to the same apartment block. The apartment we were staying in was in a block called Tala Hills, up in Tala. It was about a 20 minute ride from ...

Advantages: It is very friendly, drive on the Left hand side, and mostly speak English Disadvantages: You can't lay on the beaches in the winter, and the evenings are cold.
...is my seventh visit to Paphos over 3 years. This time it was very different. Being my first visit since Cyprus changed over to Euros in Jan 2008, I was amazed to notice the changes that had already been made. The Harbour had changed almost beyond recognition. For those of you who have already visited this area, you are in for a shock of delight.
The harbour sea front has now gone pedestrian. Gone the noisy buses, the taxis parked all along the sea ... ...on with the review of Paphos I will leave you to read on.....
Paphos is Ideal for all year round holidays. Many thinks so but there are some unlucky holiday makers that have come here in the winter, are really disappointed. Honestly I can't blame them either. Unless you know what to do and where to go. it can be really boring, looking drab, and even the beaches don't look very special. Many of the harbour shops are closed and other stores are nor ...

So this was Paphos in Cyprus. First thoughts? Not too impressed.
Our hotel wasn't in a prime position to say the least. From the balcony I could gaze at houses, unfinished buildings and what can only be described as scrubland - no doubt also waiting to be developed. In fairness the hotel (Paphiessa) was adequate - nice and clean and well decorated. Like a lot of things though, position is important.
But was I down hearted? No way! I changed ... ...was beginning to have fun, Paphos wasn't so bad after all!
Paphos has been around for ages and is full of history. It was the Roman capital of Cyprus and is on the west coast. It is divided into two definite sections: Upper (Pano) Paphos and Lower (Kato) Paphos. Buses (nos. 10 & 11) link the two parts. Actually the buses are very efficient. They run every fifteen minutes and there is a local set fare of 50 cents (55p). BF and I got to know them ...

...We went to Paphos christmas 98 and enjoyed a great time, sampling the local dishes, testing the cocktails (there are some intersting ones worth trying) and enjoying a really wonderful christmas dinnner at a local hotel where Santa had arrived by helicopter!and presented all the children with a gift. Taxis are always available and charge £3 for anywhere in Paphos. The market itself is a must with its under-cover market of stalls and shops offering ... ...me for six! Paphos is excellent for children as the bars and hotels welcome families, the bars actually welcome children in the evenings providing them with games and usually free popcorn while their parents can have a chat and a drink with their friends.Christmas afternoon there are family bars open with bowling, pool, but no fruit machines as gambling is banned, but there are some good game machines my children enjoyed. Overall this is a good resort ...

...on the same side takes you to Coral bay, the one across the road takes you to Paphos, it is 80p (cyp) when you get on the bus no matter how many stops you stay on for which is fantastic and a cheap way to get around.
We did not hire a car but they do drive on the same side of the road as us just in case you were thinking of hiring one.
Conclusion
----------------
Despite my little whines I did have a lovely week in Cyprus I honestly didn't see a single cloud all week and the temperature was 45+ C everyday, the food was edible and I certainly didn't starve on all those toasties.
This hotel is not a 4* in any way, I am well traveled both here and abroad and I would give this a 2* if that.
The bar staff at the pool bar were pleasant but the rest of the staff I found rude and unhelpful.
My parents came over while we were still...

...My husband and I got married in May 2005 in Paphos, Cyprus. It was all arranged for us by Thomas Cook Wedding services, who were excellent but we're not here to talk about them! The only thing we had to arrange for ourselves was the wedding reception, and this is where Zaffron comes in. Our Thomas Cook Wedding co-ordinator asked us a few questions about what we were after, how many people etc., and recommended Zaffron from a number of restaurants she had in her file. She gave us the contact details and it was up to us to go and arrange it.
The prospect of arranging it ourselves directly with the owners was pretty daunting at first, after all the whole reason we'd gone for the package in the first place was so everything would be taken care of. I suppose it's not practical to arrange receptions for people because their needs...

...My family and I have recently returned home from a week's holiday in Cyprus staying in the Paphos region. If you have read my review on Paphos itself you will know that I was not incredibly impressed with the area but we did have one lovely day visiting the Pafos Bird and Animal Park.
The park is actually situated about 15 km from Paphos in the Coral Bay area. In order to reach it you need to drive inland a little and slightly up the mountain. This means that when you are at the park you do get lovely views of the sea and the bays. It's actually quite beautiful.
Visiting in February meant that the park was hardly busy at all which meant we could stroll around at our leisure and I didn't have to worry too much about my daughters wondering off and losing sight of them. Also it's not a huge site and it's easy to wander around...

Hello and welcome to my review on the Athena Beach Hotel, in Cyprus.
In this review I will try to explain as much as I can about the hotel, why we chose the hotel and the area and what is available once you get there.

"Go. You'll like it," our elder son told us after visiting the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus, "but hurry, because it won't last."
