When booking our first family holiday abroad, we wanted somewhere quiet and not a 'party' resort. We also wanted somewhere with a short flight time. Menorca (or Minorca) fit the bill. It was described in the brochures as a quiet island with lovely beaches, and was a 2 hour flight from the UK.
We decided to book a package holiday so that we had someone to hold responsible if something went wrong with any aspect of it. We booked through First Choice and paid £1450 for a weeks self catering for 2 adults and 4 children the 2nd week of July. We booked a 2 bed apartment.
THE APARTMENTS

• Hotel Paradise Resort, Lanzarote *
Well my family and I had this holiday booked since the end of January so we had been looking forward to it all year. Neither of us had ever been to Lanzarote so we didn't know what to expect. It was my mum and brothers first time abroad where it was hot; they've been place in Europe France mainly on previous holidays but not a sunny holiday. It was also my little brothers first time on a plane so he was well excited.

I wasn't actually meant to be going on this holiday; it was originally just my mum, her boyfriend and my little brother going. I had my own plans, but you know what happens to plans. A couple of years ago, my parents were trying to decide what to get me for my birthday, and decide to treat me to a stay at Le Spa. My friend who lives in the area and is a member of Le Spa's Gym decided to spend the day having treatments with me. I was advised to arrive at the hotel at 9am to book in for my treatments whilst having a relaxing cup of tea. During which time, my luggage would be taken to my room and the booking in forms would be delivered to me during lunch. Cool, I thought no rushing around with checking in and booking treatments before everything was fully booked.
I duly arrived at 9am, and headed for the entrance. The door was locked, with a note up saying Le Spa would be open at 10am. Intriguing seen as I was told to arrive at 9am. I had a look around for another entrance or someone to ask about the mix up. There ...
