Its a Paragon of no virtues...much like myself

Advantages: somewhere to sleep,
Disadvantages: lost my booking, twice

...was advised - is the Paragon Hotel on Alcester St, one half of a converted Victorian Hospital, the other half being another more expensive hotel.

The room rate when searched online was for my purposes £40 - this rate being for a standard twin room. A single would cost £30, and a Superior twin £75. Knowing the room is going to be little more than a place to pass out the cheaper twin rate won out, so off to the online booking section ...

Only it wasnt, 24 hours later still lacking any sort of confirmation email I called them up, after apparently speaking to someone I virtually every dept finally a Reservations bod gets on the other end of the phone. No record of my booking, which is slightly concerning, how many ... more

Quick review of Paragon Hotel, Birmingham

Twin room which was damp and very tired. Very poor standard. Complained, but hotel had overbooked that night. Heater, next to bed, had broken thermostat and was either full on, or switch it off. We both complained of itching in the night. We have submitted 2 complaints and no response. They do not care, so don't risk it. Go elsewhere. ...

Paragon

Advantages: Location
Disadvantages: Everything else

Good location, nice architecture if you like Victorian Gothic BUT reservation policy needs reviewing. We booked weeks in advance for 2 single rooms, on day of stay we were offered a twin on the 1st floor. A collegue who had booked on internet was told his reservation lapsed at 4.00pm, so when he came to book in at 5.30, no room was available. No alternative was available either. Our room was cramped and damp, skips were emptied at 5.15am, We were ...
