As part of our 4 day break to Disneyland Paris, we (2 adults) decided to also visit Parc Asterix. On our final day we were flying back to England from CDG at 10pm - this was perfect for Parc Asterix as you can catch a bus from the airport straight to the park. It was about a 10 minute bus ride - we bought our tickets at the station as they did a combined bus and park entrance for 35E.
Upon entering the park, the weather was glorious. It looked as if it would be another scorcher like the previous 3 days had been. We were so wrong - within an hour of being in the park the heavens opened with very heavy rain showers. You know the ones - the ones that feel like they will be heavy for 10 minutes then clear and the sun will come out. Again we were wrong - it rained like this all day long! This still didn't take away from the fun of the day though. OK so it wasn't ideal but it was still very enjoyable.
Its also worth mentioning we went to Parc Asterix on a Saturday. I think this greatly affected the number of people in the park. It was very busy (even compared to Disney). Also, as it was an off peak time of year Parc Asterix is only open on a Wednsday, Saturday and Sunday (to coincide with French schools).
After getting in the park we headed towards La Descente du Styx. This is a water rapids style ride. The "boat" holds up to 8 people and you get pretty wet. We queued for almost an hour for this (at the time it seemed crazy as the longest we'd queued for anything in Disney the previous two days was 20 minutes!). It was good fun though.
The Oxygénarium is another water ride - though somewhat different to any I had been on in the past. The thing you sit in is rather like those on the rapids - but its an inflatable one, is much bigger and VERY difficult to get in wearing a skirt!! The ride was good, though I don't remember getting at all wet (perhaps a good thing given the weather).
Another water ride is the Menhir Express. This takes the style of a log flume - and a very good log flume it is. By the time we got on this ride for another drenching we were already saturated through - I was really starting to worry about our passports to get us home that night in my bag!!
The final water ride (yes, usually there are four) is Le Grand Splatch. This is a short ride accumulating in a big drop (as the name suggests!). By the time we headed for this ride I was getting rather sick of water - but this was more to do with the weather, on a warm sunny day these rides would have been perfect.
Finally a non-water ride: The Goudurix is a large, steel tracked roller coaster. It is similar to Nemesis (Alton Towers), Incredible Hulk (Islands of Adventure), Kumba (Busch Gardens) and Nemesis Reloaded (Thorpe Park). The queue for this was approx. 25 minutes. As this is my favourite type of roller coaster, I unsurprisingly loved it. If the queue hadn't got longer as the day wore on I'd have liked to go on this again.
La Trace du Hourra was by far my favourite ride at Parc Asterix. It is very hard to describe as it is like no other ride I have been on or seen elsewhere. You sit in two's in a line of four - the 'track' is like a bobsleigh track so you coast down at 60km an hour. Given how difficult it is to describe, it may be best to go to the official Parc Asterix website to see a picture! I would love to go on this ride again - it was totally fantastic.
Finally, the Tonnerre De Zeus is the biggest wooden rollercoaster in the world. We left this until the end of the day and queued in the miserable rain for about 90 minutes. I would love to say it was worth it, but unfortunately I hadn't been on a wooden rollercoaster for a few years, and I'd forgotten how much I hated them! So after a 90 minute wait, I endured 90 seconds of hell. I can't believe the ride was only 90 seconds long - it felt more like 90 hours! I'm a big fan of rollercoasters but teh Tonnerre de Zeus left me screaming 'I want to get off' for the entire ride. My knees ended up bruised from the ricketty track. Unfortunately my boyfriend thought it was the best ride ever - and lucky me has to be the dutiful girlfriend and endure not one but two wooden rollercoasters at Busch Gardens (Florida) next year. I . Cannot. Wait.
There was also lots of family and kiddie rides but as we didn't have kids in tow we didn't try these out!
Overall, our day at Parc Asterix was brilliant and well worth the money. Yes the weather could have been better, and the queues shorter but life isn't always perfect!!
Advantages: You can get there by public transport Disadvantages: The queues
...go to Versailles or the Parc Asterix, in the end we chose what we thought would be a day of fun. But first let me tell you:
**** How to get there:
You can go by car; it's about 30 km north of Paris (Autoroute A1). We don't have a car so we took the RER first (RER B) which takes you to Roissy Charles de Gaulle Terminal 1 and then a bus to the Parc Asterix. From central Paris (gare de Lyon) it took us about 30 mn to go to the airport and then about ... ...buy the tickets at the Parc you will pay for one day:
32 euros (adult) 23 euros (children between 3 and 11) free for children under 3
This ticket gives you access to all attractions and show for one day.
**** When is it open?
During summer (from the 14th of July to the 29th of August), the parc is open from 9.30am to 7.00pm otherwise it is open from 10.00am to 6.00pm.
**** The rides:
There are lots of attractions but when we went the queues ...

Advantages: more adult rides than Disneyland Disadvantages: less easily accessible than Disneyland, decor less enchanting
I went to the Parc Asterix about 2 years ago, about a year after going to DysneyLand Paris so I can compare the two pretty easily. Parc Asterix is located about 30 min by car from Paris and is based on a very famous series of comic books about Asterix and his small village resisting the roman invasion. It's a comic book written for teenagers and adults more than for young kids so the theme is already more mature than disneyland Paris. Unlike Disneyland ... ...Another great thing about Parc Asterix are the water shows with dolphins, orcs, seals... It's a good way to sit down and take a break but you need to get there early before the show starts if you wanna to have good seats. Finally, tickets are cheaper than for Disneyland, at least it was the case when I went. There are a few drawbacks compared to Disneyland: it's less easily accessible and the whole experience is definitely less "enchanting" (decor, ...

Review of Parc Asterix, Paris
Advantages: More fun than Disneyland.... Disadvantages: Be prepared to travel...
...been to both Disneyland and Parc Asterix..I felt compelled to write!
I figured I should guide people to this little known 'thrill seeker haven' before they spend too much money on a mouse with less charm than a verruca!
Parc Asterix is located on the road to Lille...(if I remember this rightly- you must forgive was 3 years ago and if anyone wishes to correct me feel free!) and admittedly you need to travel to Charles de Gaulle airport to catch ... ...I don't remember how much Parc Asterix is....it was also in the days of Francs when I went(but hey I am the first person to review this one so gimme a bit of a break! :))) I know for sure it was cheaper than Disneyland and that you can get packages from the tourist office which include the coach and day pass...and back then it was definitely under £30. (we were always skint!)
Right...now to the FUN STUFF!!! The rides....I LOVE rollercoasters...so ...

Advantages: beautiful city, lots to do Disadvantages: expensive, ignorant French people
places I went, ok I am a little wired but so what! Taking the long ride to the top built up the anticipation and the view of Paris was the climax, try it yourself it is really an orgasmic experience :o).
- Giverny.
You can be forgiven for not recognising this but it is worth seeing, for the art lover especially. It is about 60Km out of Paris and the attraction? Monet’s gardens, a selection of gardens lovingly created by the artist himself.
- Disneyland Paris.
Although not a spectacular place it is good for the young at heart, and those of us who cannot afford to go to the real thing. It’s worth the visit so give it a go if you want, especially if you have kids. To go off on a tangent a better theme park in France has got to be ‘ParcAsterix’ if you get the opportunity to go do not over look it!
There ...
