Hello friends, i am a mosaic artist and always adore Gaudi. I went to Barcelona to worship Gaudi last month. It was a fantastic trip. Barcelona is so much fun!
The most remarkable place is the Park Guell. It is full of mosaic. The bus only takes you to a spot and you have to climb up a slope in order to reach the park. It is all worth it when you reach the entrance. "Park Guell" sign were being made into many different color tiles combination. There are around 10 different version. They all linked up to form the border of the park.
When i reached the park entrance, I was speechless. It was like in a fairy tale. All the buildings are very organic and fun looking.
The most famous Gaudi's iguana is at the centre. It was composed with many different colorful tiles and rocks. Down there was a fountain with a snake head. The park runs with an ecology system. The water came out from the snake head is actually the rain water from the roof. it is so interesting.
Right up the iguana is a rose petal bench. this bench is designed at an angle so that it is shaddy in the summer and sunny in the winter. Gaudi, you are a genius!
Following the steps i reached the high columns areas. on the ceilings are all sun medallians. They are composed of dishes, coffee cups, bottles scarp pieces. It is not difficult to trace them out. That is the fun part of mosaic. there is an order in the mess. The high ceiling in this area is ideal for music performance. the sound will echo and bounce back and forth. there is someone actually performaning his violin and is getting a lot of attention and appreciation.
ok, when i keep hiking up, i saw the beautiful chain of horoscope benches. they are all colorful. the people are chatting, reading, relaxing, having lunch, they are all having a good time on the bright colors, happy benches.
continue walking up the path, you can find a fantastic view of the cityscape of Barcelona! After taking a break with the breathtaking views, i notice there are many huge block of rocks staking up to form a chain of benches. I suddenly feel like i am one of the characters in "Flinestone".
Gaudi Museum is just around the big rock benches. The Museum hosts many of Gaudi's furniture works. Unfortunately, visitors are not allowed to sit on them. You will never know how good is a chair unless you sit on it, right??!!
There is a little gift shop in the museum. it has a pretty nice collection of gifts. But it is so small and so many people.
Wow, it is such a beautiful park that one can spend a whole day. Best of all, it is free! It is a place that one cannot miss in a lifetime. I highly recommend this park to all mosaic artist. It will be an eye opening experience! Bravo Gaudi!

Advantages: Wonderful architecture, galleries and parks, superb romantic atmosphere, great for shopping Disadvantages: Aged quarters can feel a bit grotty, but that is natural and part of their charm. More expensive than nearby localities, but then cities always are.
