MontJuic~ Set a short distance from the city centre MontJuic is a good place to visit for some quiet time. Redeveloped for the 1992 Olympics it is home to a number of museums and art galleries as well as extensive parkland offering excellent views of the city and harbour. One of the many reasons why a weekend is too short a time to spend in Barcelona you could easily spend a day at either the Fundació de Joan Miró or the Museu National d' Art Catalunya (MNAC) and then there is the Olympic Stadium and a cable car ride to be enjoyed. ...Of course, Barcelona isn't big like London or Paris with their 8/9 millions inhabitants, but it offers more attractions. At first you can visit a lot of bars where you can have the first experience with the Spanish mentality. Then, you can visit the wonderful monuments of Gaudí like "Sagrada Familia" or "Parc Güell". Barcelona has also one of the beautifulness pedestrian walkways (perhaps the beautifulness) of the world: "Las Ramblas". In "Las Ramblas" you can see a lot of artists with their sympathy way to make the people laughing. You can also visit an another walkway whose name is "La Rambla del mar". Here you have a wonderful view of the Mediterranean. You can also visit "La Plaza de Catalunya" where you can buy a lot of things in "El Corte Inglés" (like Harrods). ...Boqueria, subject of the next article in the series, is a covered market that must be seen to be believed. The Museum of Erotica across the street has its fans - you know who you are! Admire the "Palau de la Virreina", "Gran Teatre del Liceu" and "Palau Güell". Finally, we reach the impressive Columbus Monument by the port. How about this for trivia - the discoverer of America is pointing in the wrong direction! La Rambla can seem a lot longer than a single mile, depending on the mime artists, puppeteers and human statues there on the day. During our frequent passages, we witnessed a fidgety Batman in an ill-fitting suit, a couple in authentic 17th century attire, a 70 year-old Rivaldo impersonator and ET!
