visiting the woods
Review of Bois de Vincennes by il_cuoco

Advantages: take a breath of clean air, it is the only thing you miss while walking in central Paris
Disadvantages: none, really. Only 25 minutes from the centre, with the underground.

on december 26th last year a storm partially ravaged this wonderful wood. Result of this natural disaster was that the access to it was forbidden because of the risk of falling trees. Today, even if part of it is still unaccessible, you can start back enjoying the pleasure of a walk in one of the most important green lungs of Paris. Better to choose a sunny day, as when rainy or windy there still are some restrictions applied. While there visit the ... Read review

The Pantheon
Review of Panthéon, Paris by setimerenptah

Advantages: Voltaire, interesting history
Disadvantages: No disabled access

I have just returned from the most beautiful city I have ever visited. Paris lives up to the reputation, it is an incredible city full of amazing architecture, art, culture and tasty food. One of the first places I visited was the Pantheon. Wandering up the broad rue Soufflot you will be greeted by the large dome of the sixty meter tall Pantheon building. Originally there was a church built here to honour Saint Genevieve (the patron saint of Paris) ...
...of not so merry Huns in 451 AD. When it became run down Louis XV built a new church on the site in the 18th century. The building is today known as the Pantheon, built in a neo-classical style it was completed in the first year of the French Revolution (it took thirty years to build). In a twist of fate, which I find amusing, the heroes of the revolution became the focus of this great memorial. In 1871 the Pantheon was apparently used temporarily ... Read review

city of paris
Review of La Madeleine, Paris by lewiscrofts

Advantages: atmosphere
Disadvantages: traffic

this huge neo classical edifice signifies what can broadly be called the City of paris. this is a region where all the office blocks of the town are situated. at lunch time all the french businessmen and women in their suits flood out into the square and sit in cafes eating and drinking their lazy lunches. it is not a pretty place, but then again not ugly. it has however a lovely atmosphere and should be visited for exactly that reason. there is ... A city garden
Review of Jardins des Tuileries by Grace

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

The Tuileries is less of a garden (you can only walk on the paved areas, the grass is off limits) and more of a thoroughfare for tourists going to and from the Louvre to the Champs. However, if you can find a chair, and your own little corner by one of the fountains there is nowhere more peaceful or relaxing in Paris. I've spent whole days there doing just that, and the time has flown. It's exceedingly popular lunch spot for the office workers of ... Read review

You would be a dummy not to miss this
Review of Musée Grévin by NumboJumbo

Advantages: The mirror/light show is fantastic.
Disadvantages: To us British, there’s a lot of unfamiliar faces.

Think Madame Taussauds then think Musee Grevin. A totally inauspicious entrance tucked amongst many, many shops takes you into a world of the famous and infamous, real and virtual (yes, even Lara Croft gets her own body here). There are many, many halls all leading off in different directions all with different themes - sports, literature, French Revolution, politics etc. etc. I didn’t recognize half of the waxworks because a lot of them were of ...
...make me go back to Musee Grevin is its mirror show. You’re all crowded into one smallish sized room and with intense anticipation wait for whatever happens. A dazzling display of clever lighting combined with a 360 degree wall of facetted mirrors makes for a show that you’ve probably never ever seen before in your life. Miss it and you’ll regret it. From there you’re lead into a small theatre where a very entertaining magic show is performed. Then ... Read review
