I wouldn't want a "Holiday Inn" this hotel Advantages: Good location Disadvantages: dull, dull, dull - and not cheap either ...in my room at the Holiday Inn in Paris St Germain de Pres I couldn't help but reflect that the designers drew heavily from that area of the colour palette best characterised by the term 'nicotine'. Not a popular colour card at the 'mix your own Dulux' decorator centre and with good reason. This is a Holiday Inn that's badly in need of refurbishment and I was rather relieved to only be there for the one night. My room was quite astonishingly drab ... ...Good job the Americans invented Holiday Inn so he can't hold that against the French. My colleague said he was jealous and would rather be in my shoes with Paris at my feet for the evening but I wasn't in any mood to take advantage of it. I was on my own, tired and I had work to do. I pre-booked online at the Holiday Inn website which they always say is the cheapest way to book but it also means you have to pay in advance. Le meridien Paris Advantages: spotlessly clean, luxury hotel. Disadvantages: costs ...cook, and we decided on Le meridian hotel in Montparnasse – Paris. The hotel was built in 1974 and has 25 floors, with eight lifts (elevators) and 953 rooms. The hotel offers a range of ‘extras’ including, 24 hour room service and reception and concierge desk: Fax machine, interconnecting rooms, e-mail facilities, Currency exchange, Laundry/dry cleaning service, Safe deposit and express check out. I expect these are the norm these days. Just another Novotel.....or is it? Advantages: Clean, very modern, nice rooms and great rates Disadvantages: Some will prefer a hotel closer to the Champs Elysee ...Paris and this time the Novotel Tour Eiffel. I was really looking forward to arriving at this hotel because I had heard so much about it and so I already had an idea in my head about what it would be like. The hotel: The hotel is a 4 star hotel that is located quite close to the Eiffel tower on the left bank in the 15th Arondissement of Paris. It is in fact just across the main road from the river bank. It is also within easy reach of the Louvre. ... ...outside you see the usual Novotel sign in blue and the bottom half of the building looks a lot better which makes you feel a bit more at ease. Upon entering the lobby you can start to see that this is actually a very modern hotel with a much classier looking interior and staff to greet you. A 3* hotel at 2* price! Advantages: Clean, comfortable and friendly Disadvantages: Not central to the Left Bank (but great for 'Grand Boulevards' and Montmartre etc) Arriving in Paris last weekend we found that the hotel we booked from the UK was little more than a doss house so we left on our high horses only to find that we were homeless in Paris on a Friday afternoon! IÕd brought a TIME OUT guide, that had been given away free a few weeks before, with me and desperately rang round places featured (buy a phone card from any Tabac if you need to use the phone - the minimum is £5 but virtually all call boxes ... ...a room for FF850 (£85) per night but, if you mention the TIME OUT offer, it comes down to FF680 (£68) per night. When we actually got there we were shown another room as well for FF560 (£56) - it was small but very clean and comfortable and only £11 per night more than the flea pit! The staff were really helpful and breakfast is great; usual fresh bread and fabulous French butter, warm croissant and pan au chocolat, cereal, fruit, cheese, endless ... Not the 'Paris' experience I was expecting Advantages: near to subway station and nice bakery Disadvantages: dirty basic rooms, scary man in our room, generally rude staff ...hostels when I arrived at Hostel Richard. Nothing, however prepared me for the experience ahead of me. On arriving at about 10pm my friend and I found the front door to the hostel blocked shut from the inside with a chair. After knocking on the door a man let us in, and in my opinion was rather rude! Throughout our check in he kept trying to look behind us to see the TV (which appeared to be showing some sort of porn!). The Hostel room was the dirtiest ... ...simply daren't visit the communal shower room! We used our sleeping bags as the sheets were dirty too. On our last night we were due to leave early in the morning - about 4pm to catch an early train. We were awake and getting ready at about 3am, when our bedroom door was unlocked from the outside, and the man from our check in experience entered our room. Obviously we were quite shocked to find a man entering our room at 3am! He then said 'Sorry ...
