In "the city that never sleeps," especially if you're visiting for the first time, it's all about site-seeing, shopping, and taking advantage of New York's endless amount of restuarants. So when choosing a hotel, it's all about location!
I took my first ever visit to New York (and certainly not my last, taking into consideration the amazing time I had there) in February 2007, for a school trip, and stayed in Park Central Hotel.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS I was delighted when we first arrived at the Park Central hotel - the immaculate lobby and reception area, with brown leather sofas and sparkling floor tiles, was classy and modern. We were greeted by friendly staff who gave us our room keys, and we went off up the lifts (we didn't fancy taking the stairs, having being accomodated on numerous floors up the building!) to our room.
ACCOMODATION Again I was very pleasantly surprised - the room was much nicer than I'd anticipated. It was nicely decorated, the beds and bedding were comfy, and there was a large cable TV, a hairdryer, and an inroom safe, which we also found very useful. The bathroom was also clean and tidy. The only downpoint of the room was our view - our window looked onto another wall a few metres away, but really this wasn't too much of a disappointment seeing as we only really used the room at night and for getting ready early in the morning.
LOCATION Situated on a busy New York City street, the hotel is never far from the key places you want to visit. It's just a 5-10 minute walk to Times Square, a 15 minute walk to Central Park, and about a 30-45 minute walk to the Empire State Building (but if you've been to New York before, you'll know that walking to and from places for this amount of time really doesn't seem much - there's just so much to look at.) The hotel is also just blocks away from the major shopping districts such as 57th and 5th Avenue, as well as the Theatre District, and Museum of Modern Art.
STAFF As previously mentioned, the staff at the hotel were very friendly and quick to help with any questions or queries. There is a man especially employed to stand outside the hotel and hail taxis for you, and he was also more than willing to take a photo of my friend and I standing outside the hotel!
EATING The hotel has an inhouse restaurant as well as other eating facilities, though I must admit I didn't take advantage of any of these - there are plenty of cafes and restaurants of all kinds just two minutes walk away from the hotel (we really were spoilt for choice) and we just couldn't miss out on the authentic New York breakfasts! The prices of food at these kinds of places was pretty good and the food was lovely. And for those other cheesecake lovers, there's a New York Cheesecake shop situated right across the street! Lastly (it's only a minor detail, but was a nice touch all the same), there was a vending machine on our floor of the hotel, which contained still and fizzy drinks, and an ice machine, which is always handy and saves having to walk to the nearest store for a beverage late at night.
OTHER I was also told that the hotel has a fitness centre, but again I didn't use this... only in the city for four days, I used every spare moment to shop!! One of the few negatives regarding my experience at the hotel was the fact that during my time there, the ATM cash machine in the lobby was broken, which was a bit of a pain, but I soon found other machines elsewhere.
OVERALL My overall experience at the hotel was very positive and I would certainly go there again.

Review of Park Central, New York City
Advantages: During the Horse Drawn Ride, you are taken to safe areas but are given a feel for the park's atmosphere. Disadvantages: You only see a very small part of the park, in the horse drawn carridge.
