... It was interesting that often that the trips that were deemed to be the least favourable before leaving home often were the best from the kids point of view by the time they wrote their journal! It has also given three of them a lifelong love of writing and three write on this site! (We do ... Read review

RHS Gardens Wisley

Advantages: Lovely day out
Disadvantages: you need reasonable weather!

I work extremely long hours in the School term time as I am a music teacher in a boarding school and I still have a performing career. On top of all that I also am quite active with politics. Things get easier in school holidays and I try to keep Sunday clear all year wherever possible. In these precious windows of time I like to have quality time with my children and sometimes some solitary quality time with myself.

It is ...
...space in this stress filled treadmill of a world in which most of us live. Sometimes it is a luxury to veg out at home, but as a general rule we like to go out and about to relax. There are several wonderful places where you can go, either free or for a small charge. With that in mind I thought I might, over a period of time, share our experiences of a few"day out" places. There follows a short preamble, before we get to the main topic ... more

Port El Kantaoui Zoo, Tunisia

Advantages: Cheap Entry Fee, Plenty Of Shade
Disadvantages: Limited Amount Of Animals

after, with food and fresh water in all of the cages. The principle aim of the Zoo is to operate as a conservation area and there is a breeding program in place for many of the Animals and Birds. The young Animals and Birds are however kept out of sight of the general public. The Botanical Gardens is not a separate part of the Park but instead the numerous Plants are set out between the pathways and within the fenced off areas. Many of the Trees and Plants are endangered species. The majority of both the Animals and Plants have signs in front of them advising of the name in several languages along with a brief note about their natural habitat etc. The path takes you around the Zoo and Botanical Gardens in a full circle so eventually you will find yourself back at the entrance where you first came in. In this area there are some ...

Review of Parc Oasis Zoo and Botanical Park

Up there

Advantages: Location, style, welcome, comfort, facilities, food, value
Disadvantages: None, except to those who might prefer swankiness and flunkeys

for sure whether there would be a charge for doing so, but given the generally generous style of the place, it wouldn't surprise me if there were not. If you do bring you own car, parking is easy; there is a hotel car park (no charge) down at the bottom of the garden, but generally there?s plenty of free space right in front of the hotel in the square. * Room rates * The tariff at the Chanceleiros is extremely straightforward. Bed and breakfast for two in a double room totals 120? a night (just under £110 at today?s dismal exchange rate). I can?t find a single room tariff on the hotel website, so it?s probably best to take a companion; you wouldn?t want to pay that to be on your own. Dinner is a set price of 30? (£27) per person for the four courses, including as much wine as you can drink. Children get away with 10? (£9 ...

Sheffield's Golden Mile!

Advantages: Good variety of bars and shops, easily accesible, good atmosphere
Disadvantages: Some shop prices are quite high

's largest recreation areas lie directly off Ecclesall Road. These are the Botanical Gardens, Endcliffe Park and in my opinion one of Sheffield's finest little gems, the Sheffield General Cemetery. Ecclesall Road is within easy walking distance of the city centre, leading off from the bottom of one of the main pedestrianised shopping areas known as The Moor. From here a subway crosses under the busy dual carriageway, St Mary's Gate and as you come up for air at the other side, you have arrived at the bottom of Ecclesall Road. The first thing that you will quickly notice is that there is a very lively street life, many of the café's and bars have tables and chairs that spill out onto the pavement and especially during the summer months, there is an almost Mediterranean ambiance. The Pamona is a popular bar that is found at the end ...
