    Advantages Advantages Good food

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Bad attitude

Good food is not enough. A restaurant’s attitude to its diners is also important. I’d ordered Escalope Milanese (£11.95). It came with a minute portion of spaghetti in tomato sauce. When it was eaten with half the escalope still to go I politely asked for some more pasta. I was told pasta was an accompaniment not meant to replace potatoes and vegetables. "But I didn’t get any potatoes and vegetables" I said, even though the menu said the dishes came with them. The owner drew in her breath. "But not if you have pasta" she replied. "It clearly states so in the menu." She flounced off returning ... more

We ate at The Patio, Hanover St, Edinburgh on Saturday. A strange long, thin restaurant interior, and a décor that was in need of a serious makeover some years ago, but didn't get it. We waited too long for drinks, and finally the order to be taken. Having waited, we asked twice for an update on when our food would arrive. Especially when others were arriving after us, and getting their food quickly. Finally ... the garlic bread was disappointingly simply sliced crusty bread with thinly spread oiling butter - and no hint of garlic. My pizza (specially ordered as extra hot version of their ... more

5 Stars Quick review of Patio Restaurant, Edinburgh by FJKCheltenham 06/02/2008
I visit Edinburgh often, and eat at The Patio. My experiences have always been favorable, and every time I have visited, its always packed out 1 most are locals, who have a huge choice of where to eat. I cannot understand the other negative comments - they would not have lasted 30 years if it was as stated, to me the food is good, with superb fish, chicken, steaks & pasta. The service, even at very busy times, is always good, and some staff have been there for decades ! For Quality, Value for Money and a genuine welcome, the Patio ... more

Great great restaurant, an institution! It's only been here in the capital city for 40 years, run by the same family throughout.

Advantages Advantages Friendly, good service, gorgeous tasting fresh cooked food, an extensive menu that caters well both in taste and price

Disadvantages Disadvantages It's popular so to avoid disappointment you will have to book

4 of us went on Saturday evening and the whole experience was delightful. The menu is extensive and caters for all tastes. The specials are very good and the waiter is knowledgable about the ingrediants used. We all chose the scallops as a starter and we all agreed they were lovely. For main course we had: Sword Fish Monk Fish Halibut King Prawn pasta All of the above dishes were cooked to perfection. The sauces that they came with tasted divine and the vegetables were cooked al dente which is always a pleasure. We had 3 bottles of good quality wine and the bill came to £35 per head. The staff ... more
