When in Tavira you fancy a very enjoyable meal out then visit the O PATIO RESTAURANT.
LOCATION:-
Find the OLD ROMAN BRIDGE, not difficult, then with your back to the Open Air Theatre cross the bridge, on the opposite side just continue straight down the little street facing you, about 50 yards on the right hand side is O PATIO RESTAURANT.
You enter by the door and prceed up the Staircase. You will pass a chilled display of the Fresh Caught Today fish on offer.
In the restaurant is another chilled display of the Meat on offer.
There is a small bar and then tables in Three Areas (rooms). There is also a Open Air Patio that must be delightful in the Summer. Pity we only seem to visit Tavira in the Winter, although it is still warm.
What I Like is the Tables are Large, which is a big plus when the Food and Drinks come.
Starters tend to be a series of small dishes to share (Greek Meze) they bring a Tray full and you and
your party select the dishes. Carrotts with Corriander, Warm Goats Cheese in Honey, Olives, Anchovies (sorry for spelling) Sardine Paste etc etc.
They also have Soups Fish Soup, Tomatoe etc.
Drinks are also ordered, Large Beers 2.5 Euros, Bottle (very acceptable House Red) 8 euros, Water.
Main Courses a good choice to please everyone.

Special Lobster cataplana Special Shell Fishes Cataplana Monkfish Cataplana Squib and Prwns Cataplana Chicken Cataplana Lamb Cataplana
Steak in House (mushroom) sauce or pepper sauce. (My sister in law is very particular about her steak cooking, must be VERY WELL cooked, but not cremated, just must be no blood) She has never been disappointed here, even though a thick cut of meat.
Fish Dishes. TUNA Steaks in onion sauce, a large bowl comes with two Large Fresh Tuna steaks with potatoes, green beans , carrotts in onion sace, just keep spooning it onto the plate.
Swordfish Steaks, again two large fresh steaks with selection of vegitables.
Chicken with almonds, with vegtable selection, again very large portions, now you know benifit of large tables.
They also do Pork and Black pork.
They have traditional CATAPLANNERS these are for two persons. Gets its name from the cooking/serving dish a CATAPLAN, Like a deep wok with lid.
My brother and I shared a Pork and Clam one last year, we are both BIG EATERS, when it came to the table at first we thought the other one is going to be hungry. Do not believe it is is like a BOTTOMLESS POT, we kept spooning and eating, it beat us both.
Other shared dishes are Sea Food and Rice, it had Giant Prawns, Clams, Musslels, Monk Fish, Crab, Oyster, Octopus Sqib in it.
Also a Tradition Piaella.
They also do a fantastic assortment of Kebabs the kind on a scewer. They come laid on a lettuce bed in what can only be discribed as a RIDGE TILE, they are that big.
Deserts , we have never managed one after alll the above, but having viewed those who do they are just as tasty and again large.
How come the Potuguise are smaller than us, (only in stature) in friendship they are very large.
The Decor of the restaurant is one of those hodge podge of items that take years to collect, old phots, items hanging on walls from fishing and agriculture.
As the bill comes there is a complimentary glass of Port comes with it.
Our Bill for the Night about 80 euros (inc tip) so about £14 per person, Good Wine, Good Beer and all that FRESH COOKED food.
ROLL ON NEXT JANUARY. and we will meet those very Pleasant Staff at the O PATIO again.

We returned to Tavira in January of this year, four of the party had not been to Portugal before and is usual the question was "What do we eat". "VERY WELL", was my reply.
As there were 10 of us I phoned two weeks before we left to Book a Table for 10 for both Friday & Saturday nights. Agreed to reconfirm (Understandable) on Weds before, which was done.
On arrival at the Restaurant, the Table was reday and the selection of little dishes (a mezze of starters) were just being laid on the table.
As before the Food and Service was excellent. Steaks cooked how those who ordered requested. Fish dishes superb, Paul could not believe TWO Large Salmon Steaks, and the look as he took his first bite was sheer pleasure. Robert and I had a Cataplana and again were too full for a desert. The wines were very good. Complimentary PORT to accompany the Bill.
So as first reported a Must if you visit Tavira.

I'm planning a short break for myself and best friend for her bday maybe we'll try portugal and I can go find this place. I think we'd be happy there for a few days hehe! You made it sound gorgeous! great review! x
