The Peking Duck on Smithdown Road was an eating experience not to be missed. It's been recently taken over and is a real family business with the lovely, helpful sons providing service. The food is fresh, hot, tasty and very well priced. The cleanliness and general feeling of quality is unquestionable. We went initially to the Sunday afternoon buffet and was very impressed with the range of starters in particular. We then returned for a meal and ordered a set menu. The chicken and sweetcorn soup was one of the best I've ever tasted. The spare ribs were sticky and rich, the duck gorgeous and we asked for more pancakes with no extra charge. The lemon chicken had a real lemon taste and the beef in blackbean sauce so tender and tasty. We could fault nothing and recommend it fully to everyone. There is free parking in a car park over the road and the restaurant is close to bus stops. The menu is extensive and the chef very willing to please. If you like Chinese, you will love the New Peking Duck and if you haven't tried Chinese, try the Sunday buffet for a great introduction.
Advantages: Great food Disadvantages: Slightly pricey
Fung Shing is located on Lisle Street in the centre of Chinatown, a few minutes? walk from Leicester Square Tube station. Its convenience means that the clientele is made up mostly of office workers and tourists. The restaurant offers a wide range of excellent Chinese food, including a tasty PekingDuck. All the dishes are of a very good standard, and a special menu with the chef?s recommendations is available. The service is unfailingly courteous, and the staff are always willing to explain and suggest choices.
Fung Shing?s single fault is that it?s relatively expensive, and as a result, the atmosphere is not as lively as at other restaurants in Chinatown.
A great place to go for dinner on special occasions! ...
Advantages: good standard of food Disadvantages: A bit more expensive than most chinese restaurants
I was always put off going to Henry Wongs because of the prices when there was a much cheaper and tasty chinese takeaway just round the corner. I did get a chance to try it though when a friend decided to take me there for dinner.
The menu was pretty standard for a chinese restaurants with old favorites such as pekingduck and beef in black bean sauce. I ordered the special chilli king prawns with egg fried rice and my friend had the chicken with cashew nuts. Both dishes were very good and the house white wine was pleasant aswell. The dishes cost around £6 and the portions were large.
I liked the surroundings with green bamboo shoots in vases and potted palms. The service was also efficient and there seemed to be quite a few regular customers.
Overall I recommend this place if you want to be guaranteed a nice meal and don't mind ...

in the heart of Edinburgh's Stockbridge village, the Ping On is an old-style chinese restaurant. It looks like it's been around forever (or at least since the seventies!) and the menu is full of old favourites and classic chinese dishes.
From the outside, the Ping On looks like your everyday chinese restaurant/takeaway, but don't let the basic exterior fool you - once inside, the food is anything but ordinary.
The Crispy PekingDuck manages to be ridiculously crunchy without the meat being dry and chewy. the beef in black bean sauce is tender and flavoursome. Portion sizes are generous, with more than enough to fill even the hungriest stomaches.
The staff are friendly and attentive while still managing to be unubtrusive.
On the downside, the wine list leaves a lot to be desired, but with food of this quality that can be ...
