Granada

Advantages: Beautiful city, good transport links.
Disadvantages: Not much English spoken by locals

a couple of days before. They're available most easily from the BBVA bank everywhere in Granada. Once there, an audioguide is 3 euros, and is worth it, giving a history etc, as audioguides tend to do, given by a disembodied voice that doesn't sound human (hey that's mean - I've been one of those voices before, you know! Everbody's gotta make a living.) The top of this moorish palace gives a wonderfull view over the whole city and Albaicin (old and posh area of houses, all whitewashed in the traditional style) and then you turn around, and Bang! There's the snow capped Sierra Nevada mountain, looking stunning against the blue sky. Incidentally, a bus up there runs from the bus station, and you can ski or toboggan. Yay! Down in the city itself, the weather remains on the whole temperate and is currently about 16 degrees Centigrade ...

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

Advantages: Good taste and aroma
Disadvantages: Price, although it is good quality and you get what you pay for

This is a very tasty, somewhat hoppy pale ale from the Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. in the USA. It is the most popular beer produced by the brewery. I bought a couple of bottles from my local Morrisons as they seem to have a nice selection of different beers there that aren't available elsewhere. I paid about Ł1.50 each for a couple of small 350ml stubby bottles. It is 5.6% Alc. There is a thin layer of sediment in the bottle due to the beer being bottle conditioned. Bottle conditioned beers are generally of a much better quality than comercial beers which are filtered, force carbonated and contain no live yeast. This sediment is actually live yeast, so you could use it for home brewing if you wanted, I do. But otherwise you can just swirl this into the beer before pouring and it adds to the flavour. But that's personal taste. Upon ...

Granada on a Budget

Advantages: Picturesque and Cheap
Disadvantages: Road Works

Granada ! where is that I hear you ask. Well go onto Ryan Air website and now book a return ticket direct !. One of the most brilliant jewels of universal architecture is the Alhambra, a series of palaces and gardens built under the Nazari Dynasty in the 14th C. This huge compound of buildings - including the Generalife - summer palace, with its fountains and gardens - stands at the foot of Spain's highest mountain range, the Sierra Nevada, and overlooks the city below and the fertile plain of Granada. The Sacromonte hill, used to be home to a large Gypsy community and their influence can still be seen in all areas of Granada. Be careful of pick pockets. The shops certainly have the feel of gypsy influence. We travelled via Ryan Air that now do flights direct to this hidden wonder, the flights were Ł74 each and the flying ...
