...talking about the delights of Perfect Pizza, the chain of franchise pizza delivery outlets found across the UK (in over 180 places actually). They are now part of the American pizza company Papa John's, and at some point in the future there will be a full re-branding of the chain under the PJ name. But until that point, they are still trading under the modest name of Perfect Pizza, with their bright and easily recognisable red and yellow logo. And ... ...a bit of experience of Perfect Pizza as they have been my delivery company of choice in Newcastle for the past year. I have also used the branch near my parent's house in north Wales on one or two occasions. Of course I have had to try it so many times to get an accurate picture to give to other consumers! ;-)

Oh yes, 12 inches of pure pleasure... Mmmmmmm!
I am of course talking about the delights of Perfect Pizza, the chain of franchise pizza delivery outlets found across the UK (in over 180 places actually). They are now part of the American pizza company Papa John's, and at some point in the future there will be a full re-branding of the chain under the PJ name. But until that point, they are still trading under the modest name of Perfect Pizza, with their bright and easily recognisable red and yellow logo. And unless you live in the Outer Hebrides, there is bound to be one delivering to your area.
Before I launch into my review, I should say that I have quite a bit of experience of Perfect Pizza as they have been my delivery company of choice in Newcastle for the past year. I have also used the branch near my parent's house in north Wales on one or two occasions. Of course I have had to try it so many times to get an accurate picture to give to other consumers! ;-)
- The Menu Well, nothing that startlingly new or original for a pizza delivery service I must admit, although the range of toppings available is pretty damn comprehensive. The pizzas come in three sizes; regular (8 inches), large (12 inches) and family (15 inches), with a choice of thin or deep crust for the two smaller sizes (family come in deep only). The plain cheese & tomato pizza costs £5.45 for a regular, £7.35 for a large and £9.99 for a family size, which I don't think is too bad at all (well, it's a bit cheaper than Dominoes Pizza, who charge £7.99 for a 12 inch BTW).
From the menu, you can choose either a set flavour (such as Hawaiian, Vegetarian Perfection or Mexican Heatwave), which cost £7 to £8 for a regular, £8 to £11 for a large and £11.50 to £13.50 for a family. Alternatively, you can choose to create your own flavour onto the cheese and tomato base (with a choice of 30 different toppings, ranging from garlic to Chinese chicken to salami). The cost of extra toppings is 85p, 95p or £1.15 each depending on your chosen base size.
In addition to the pizza, there are side orders (such as garlic bread, chicken wings, potato wedges and dips), drinks (the usual suspects of Coke and Fanta) and desserts (fudge cake, toffee pie or Haagen Daze ice cream). I wouldn't recommend getting your drinks with the delivery unless it is part of a special offer though, as they have a tendency to arrive warm from having nestled among hot pizza boxes. It is also much cheaper to stick to what you have bought from the supermarket - unless you are happy to pay £1.50 for a 1.5L bottle of Coke that is!
- The service This is one thing I have always been impressed by. Many is the time when I have waited in my house for pizza to be delivered, with it taking well over an hour and then arriving luke warm and soggy on my doorstep. Not with perfect pizza though. Most of my orders are delivered in less than 30 minutes (I've even had a couple within 20 minutes of ordering), with the longest I have had to wait being 45 minutes - although that was on a Friday night, which is no doubt a very busy time. My order has always arrived piping hot and never has the order been wrong.
As well as phoning though, you can inevitably get your pizza via the internet too. Or at least you can try. I have found the website to be a useful tool when it comes to looking at the menu or finding my nearest branch, but I really would not suggest you use it to order your food. After emailing your order through the website, you are told to expect a confirmation from your local branch, with your pizza arriving 45 minutes afterwards. I tried this last week, but after an hour of waiting for my confirmation email, I rang the local branch up in hunger and inquired what was happening - its those old technical difficulties again folks! The woman I spoke to was very apologetic though, and re-took my order; it arrived 30 minutes later.
The order has to reach about the £8 before you get free delivery, BTW.
- So what do I reckon then? Well the pizzas are gorgeous - especially the thin crust ones which are lovely and crispy. Perfect Pizza are generous with the toppings and everything arrives hot and well cooked - and promptly, which is important if you are hungry! The prices are competitive and there are always special offers and meal deals on; if you don't get a leaflet through the door, then registering with the website will give you details of offers on at your local branch. Oh, and if you give them feedback over their site, you will be sent a money off voucher for your next order.
Certainly worth a try next time you are craving pizza - you could do a lot worse. Go to www.perfectpizza.co.uk and type in your postcode to find your nearest branch and their phone number. I'm sure you'll be glad you did!
