Me and my husband always wanted to visit santorini famous for its volcanic black course sand and breattaking scenary not to mention visiting some of the beatiful churches which are used on most greek postcards. We finally went last year with our 2 children to a resort called perivolos and stayed in a place called eleferia apartments. Now the journey time from thira airport was 45 minutes but wow to watch the scenery go by i was in heaven, the tour rep gave lost of interesting facts like there were over 2 hundred churches on their tiny island many are built for heroes of war or unreturning sailors and that they also believe the lost city of atlantis lies deep bellow the sea once being part of their lovely island. Perivolos beach is a long narrow beach full of umbrellas and sunbeds with lots of bars tavernas and shops and very child friendly. This beach also forms part of perissa and a 20-25 minute walk leads you to this lovely resort full of character charm and lots of lovely sovenia shops also the place to buy your fruit and vegtables if you go self catering like ourselves. During the day perivolous is very busy with lots to offer but come 9.00 at night it is a very different atmosphere all that is open are the tavernas which are just finishing up so perfect for people who like to have a low key relaxing holiday. The food in santorini is like many of the greek islands but their own speciality is the chesse pie and anything to do with cherry tomatoes and grapes which is all they manage to grow being a volcanic island but are delious and sweet. thira / fira (same place) is a great place to sightsee and take lots of stunning pictures of the volcano which you can go to visit for a cost having two children one being a toddler we decided against it but next time who knows. just remember to put on comfy shoes there is lots of walking and climbing steep steps in thira / fira. This island is beautifull no mosquitos lovely people and are about 5-10 years behind over greek islands perfect just hope it stays that way. this holiday was taking in peak time last 2 weeks of august. Hope you have an amazing trip.

Sounds lovely. We love the Greek islands but haven't been to Santorini _ yet!
