Advantages: Right on the beach, great views Disadvantages: None...eventually
We'd had some pretty good hotels on our trip to Andalucia, and we hoped that the hotel we had picked for our final three days wouldn't be any different. We wanted a comfortable room in a hotel on the beach with a nice sea view, but nothing too remote so that we could still enjoy all the facilities of a resort. Did we get what we wanted?
Well, read on...
We booked the HOTEL PERLAMARINA, in the town of NERJA, through bancotel.com. This is a Spanish based travel site whereby you purchase 'cheques' for 50 euros each. Depending on the hotel, season etc, a room costs between 1-3 cheques per night. This can mean savings of over 60% in some cases.
Being the intrepid bargain hunter (some would say tight-fisted git) that I am, I managed to book a series of 3 and 4 star hotels for 50 euros. This hotel was no exception.

Advantages: Pleasant beach resort Disadvantages: Too many 'British' pubs
has the feel of a real Spanish town...so much for first impressions. The trouble is, it's very popular with Brits and therefore most of the bars and restaurants etc cater for that market. This is great if you're hankering for the full English breakfast, or perhaps a Sunday Roast washed down with a pint of Tetleys, but that's not my idea of Spanish living.
We stayed at the Hotel PerlaMarina, on the Playa del Playazo to the west of the town. Nerja doesn't boast a long sweeping beach as such, but a collection of several beaches and coves dotted amongst a rugged, rocky coast. Playa del Playazo is probably the longest expanse of sand, but it's not very wide. However, it's fairly sedate and secluded and is ideal for some peace and quiet. It's still an easy stroll to the town centre, although that can be an adventure! There's a promenade ...

Advantages: Quieter than your average resort. Good centre for touring Disadvantages: Not a great family venue
NERJANerja is an intimate resort on the Costa Del Sol in Andalusia. Unlike typical seaside venues, with huge playas, it is perched on cliffs above a series of small bays and beaches. Its longest beach, Burriana lies to the east and is a scenic stroll through the cliffs away.
Its most famous landmark is the Balcón de Europa, a promontory named by a Spanish King who once admired the view from there - you know the kind of thing, "Verily from this day forth, this place shall be known as the Balcony of Europe" etc.
This is now topped off in marble and a favourite place for the Spanish hobby of strolling nowhere in particular in the evening. The eponymous hotel is built into the cliffs to one side, and we have stayed there twice. It must be one of the few hotels in Spain where you enter at street level to have your bags sent DOWN to ...

Welcoming hotel offering comfortable accommodation with a Spanish atmosphere, situated in a quiet location right on the beach, a short stroll to the resort centre. The swimming pool and sunterrace directly overlooks the sea and the baralso has outdoor seating. The restaurant offers an international buffet and there is a pleasant library and lounge on a balcony above the foyer.
