Well I've just returned from the glorious hotel and wonderful Island. I miss it already.
I went to the hotel last year which was just an amazing holiday that we decided to come back. Cyprus is a great Island and The Pernera Beach Hotel is a fantastic hotel.
First of all I would like to inform you that this is also a monument of history. It was the very first hotel to appear in the area and its still running at top form today.
The hotel is situated in a great spot right next to the beach and not far from the bars and restaurants. It is a hotel for everyone. Here's why. The hotel is nice and quiet which means that families and older people can relax by the pool without the disturbances of those groups from Ayia Napa. It's also good for people who want to go out to Ayia Napa and Protaras but don't want to be near the hustle and bustle all the time. There are lots of activities such as Archery, water polo, volleyball etc etc Oh and not forgetting the cocktail game! Also on the evenings there is entertainment. Some nights the FANTASTIC Animation team will put on an outstanding show such as the Lion king. (The Animation team are who run all the games and entertainment - They are great)
The hotel is next to the beach so you only have to walk a few meters. It also has a large strip of land where sun beds are located so you can be away from the pool if you wish. The pool is a decent size with a children's pool next to it. There is an archery range, football pitch, tennis court, volleyball court and much more. There is also an indoor swimming pool, squash court, gym and just in case you need some laundry doing there are some washing machines and dryers.
Okay let's move onto the friendliness of the staff. It's gotta be rated 10 outta 10. The staff are the most polite and nice people you could ever meet. They are also efficient and practical. The hotel is very clean. The maids clean your room so it is spick and span. The rest of the hotel is also kept nice and clean. The pool and the pool area is cleaned every day and the gardeners cut the grass every couple of days.
The room Depending on which room you get they are different. The year before we were across the other side of the hotel to where we were this year. However they are all good sized with wardrobes, air-conditioning, TV, beds, chairs, a trusty safe and a lovely balcony. You have a bathroom with a shower toilet and a sink. Depending on which side of the hotel you are in there are rooms which can join together. Say for example if you have 2 adults and 3 children the rooms are next to each other and you can open doors to walk through into the other room. This is very handy indeed.
The food.
-Breakfast- For the breakfasts there is an extremely large room with an extending patio so you can eat outside if you want to. There are juice machines, coffee, tea etc. You can have cereals, toast, eggs, bacon, tomatoes and sausages. There is also yoghurt and fruit available. You can even enjoy a nice glass of champagne if you wanted (Not my cup of tea to have champagne - mainly because I don't like the stuff but I just wouldn't have it for the morning anyway) I think that's all of the breakfast covered. In summary the breakfasts have a decent variety.
Taverna (Evening meal)
The Taverna is a buffet style get what you want. They have a fantastic wide range of food. You always have a soup of the day. Your meal and then deserts. They excelled themselves with wide variety and excellent waiters and waitresses.
If you're looking to but some things there are shops a short walk away and also some bars and restaurants. There is also a taxi depot a walk up the road. (You can ring the taxi depot if you want them to pick you up from the hotel and you can also arrange times for the taxi to bring you back from where you went to. (This saves time and guarantees you a ride home at the same price as when you went - unless the day and night price is different)
Boat trips
There are plenty of boat trips to choose from. There are glass bottom boats and then there are those which just take you on a cruise. However there is one boat in particular in which I would recommend. It is called the YELLOW BOAT. It is amazing value for money. Here's why. First of all it only costs you £10 (Cy) which you get a sandwich and 2 drinks included. The boat takes you up as far as it can get to Famagusta (The ghost town) where you can have a 10 minute swim (Jump off of the top of teh boat if you get the chance :) ) Then you go down to Greko Cove where you get an hour. They have great activities! You can stay on the boat, swim, use canoes, floatable, sea scooters (Which are fantastic - They pull you through the water and you can even go underwater with them) The boat trip lasts from half 10 to 2 o'clock. It was a great day and a bargin!
There are also trips you can take for a day out to places such as Famagusta and the troodos mountains (Alternatively you can hire a car if you wish) I would recommend a day out to Famagusta to learn the history and the horrific thing that happened.
I have to give the Animation team a separate recognition. They are unbelievable. They are friendly and put on great games and awesome evening shows.
Overall the hotel is fantastic value for money. You are in the blistering heat having lots of fun and relaxing. It is a hotel where everyone can enjoy their holiday. The hotel also has good access for disabled. If you're simply wanting a quiet holiday, an energetic holiday or maybe a relaxing holiday with a few nights out to Protaras and Ayia Napa this is the hotel for you!
Before I post this I would also like to recommend a snack place called the Blue Bay Restaurant - It is just a short walk to the restaurant and it over looks the bay. If you need some lunch, this is a great place to go. The staff are extremely friendly and the food is good. The Monday Night entertainment is also a good night out.
With a few minor defects such as the breakfast the hotel gets an overall rating of 9/10. As I say it is such a good hotel we may be booking to go back again.
Advantages: Overlooks the sea and next to a sandy beach. Disadvantages: Nearby building work to the east of the hotel.
...(Tatsache), as promised, about the Pernera Beach Hotel situated in Protaras, Cyprus.
Position, as they say, is everything. The hotel is right on the coast, overlooking the clear blue sea and slap bang next to a small, sandy beach. What could be better? Absolutely nothing if you look out to sea or walk along the coast in a westward direction - you'll come across even better beaches, However, walk the other way and you may well stumble over a few ... ...of nationalities working at the Pernera Beach. We got talking quite a lot to a Romanian girl and a guy from Sri Lanka, who were both waiters Both said that they were looking forward to the end of the season and didn't enjoy their time at the hotel. They wouldn't be returning next year as 'the owners expected too much'. In saying this, staff were mostly friendly and helpful - though our maid/cleaner had a bad B.O. problem! The Cypriots themselves ...

Advantages: Quality hotel in a beachside location. Disadvantages: Quite a distance from major tourist attractions.
The Pernera beach hotel is in a lovely setting, overlooking the sea. There is a small selection of shops, bars and restaurants less than 5 minutes walk away. Public areas are spacious, and there are 2 restaurants and a large bar with indoor and outdoor seating. Half board's guests take their evening meal in the large taverna, with views over the sea. The pool area is one of the best we have seen, with comfortable sunbeds and parasols. The water was ... ...not very pretty either (scenery wise) Pernera beach hotel had everything we wanted for a quiet relaxing week away. Service and cleanliness cannot be faulted, and the people of Cyprus were all very friendly. Just be prepared to ditch the diet whilst you are staying here!! ...
