Shark Bay "A Marine Wonderland"
Review of Shark Bay, Perth by quan

Advantages: View of Monkey Mia Beach
Disadvantages: Quite expensive for travel

Shark Bay is a large, shallow inlet located at the westernmost point in Australia, some 650 kilometres north of the city of Perth. In 1629, Dutch explorer Francois Pelsaert branded this desert area “a bare and cursed country, devoid of green or grass”. Later visitors recorded their impressions with such names as Hopeless Reach, Useless Inlet and Disappointment Loop. Today, though, over 120,000 people flock to Shark Bay annually. So remarkable are ...
...looked under the water, for Shark Bay contains the largest and most diverse sea-grass meadows in the world, over 4,000 square kilometres in all. The Wooramel Seagrass Bank alone stretches 130 kilometres along the eastern arm of Shark Bay. The sea grass, which are actually flowering plants, support a dizzying array of marine life. Juvenile prawns, tiny fish and countless other marine creatures inhabit this leafy sanctuary. The sea grass meadows also ... Read review

A Park built for a King!
Review of Kings Park & Botanic Garden, Perth by Allyalcock

Advantages: views across Perth city and Swan River, free.
Disadvantages: None

King's Park and Botanical Gardens are located at the East edge of Perth city centre and overlook the city and Swan River. They are situated on a hill so give fantastic and free views across the whole city and beyond. Below is a link to getting maps of the park and all its facilities and any information onm things but I have described some of these below as well! http://www.kpbg.wa.gov.au/home/index.html The park has 2 cafes, a restaurant, 2 kiosks ...
...design. ***GUIDED WALKS*** If you want to learn about the flowers and the views and about Perth itself, then take a guided walk with one of the volunteer guides. These are FREE (!!) and are run everyday at 10am and 2pm and if there are less than 10 of you then there is no need to book - just turn up to Fraser Avenue, opposite the Visitor's centre. There are a number of different guided walks that operate: Botanic Garden Walk (1-1.5hrs), King's ... Read review

Clear, warm water with plenty of life
Review of Perth (Dive Sites) by jambo6

Advantages: Good diving in a great location
Disadvantages: A long way to go

...of other diving to offer. Perth has a lot of diving in the surrounding area, I only dived in the Marmion marine park and off Rottnest Island, but it was all good. I dived with Diving Ventures SC, who operate out of Rottnest Island. They pick up divers on the Swan River, near the centre of Perth (I was there in 1992 though, so don't take this as gospel). They didn't have anything I'd report as a bad point, its too long ago to remember if they were ...
...Rottnest (Nice place for lunch between dives), The Denton Holme and The Macedon. If you hang around on them for long enough you’ll get buzzed by the tourist submarine. I wouldn’t travel to Perth solely to dive (It’s a fantastic place though), but if you go there don’t miss out. ... Read review

Perth Mint: The Big Gold Nugget of Australia
Review of Perth Mint, Perth by becky_tredget

Advantages: See the Biggest Gold Bars and Coins in the Southern Hemisphere!
Disadvantages: None. Unless You Dont Like Gold.

...my partner and I visited Perth first (mainly because his family live here) and I begged him to take me to see the Perth Mint. After six weeks of seeing everything else, I managed to get him to take me. I was so excited being a girl that adores gold, old and historical things and read up on the whole experience in my lonely guide planet book (please see my other review on this item). Perth Mint is one of the biggest and oldest attractions that the ...
...trip. We opted for the perth mint symbol on one side (a Swan, due to the Swann River of Perth) and our names engraved "Jon & Rebecca's Australia Trip of 2006" with the date of 19th of April at the bottom of the coin. There are a range of coins you can have, silver, gold, gold pated, bronze. We opted for the gold plated as this was only about $20.00 the solid gold coin was beyond our price range. The tour took was about an hour overall, the crowds ... Read review

Great for a family day out
Review of Perth Zoo, Perth by bennyboy1_5

Advantages: Nice for a family day out, big area with lots of open space
Disadvantages: Some cages seem too small, not easy to get to via public transport

Perth Zoo has been my testing ground for every new digital camera I have bought and as such I have come to know it quite well as photography is a hobby of mine. By international standards the variety of animals is probably on the small side but 200 odd different species still provides enough diversity to keep things interesting and it's quite easy to spend an entire day there if you can hold the kids pace down to leisurely stroll. They have the ...
...adults can enjoy the warm Perth sunshine on the lawn while still keeping an eye on the kids. The actual animal enclosures for the most part look quite natural and are designed to encourage natural behavior from the animals while still making it easy to see (and photograph) them. There were how ever some enclosures that looked too small to me such as the Sumatran Tiger and the Orangutans. The Zoo does have a reputation for upgrading enclosures regularly ... Read review
