Perth comes very high on my list of favourite cities. The Swan river winds through the city, and combined with the many parks and lack of high rise buildings gives the impression of a small town, rather than the large city it actually is. The central shopping district is well laid out and has a liberal sprinkling of good bars and restaurants as well as some interesting shops. Beware if you’re easily offended though, some of the bars (even on main streets) are somewhat male oriented. Topless, and even naked, barmaids are not uncommon. Everything’s relatively cheap here, decent apartments are easy to get hold of too. The people I met here were all great. You have to be able to take (and return) a bit of stick to get on anywhere in Oz though, and Perth is no different. A definite recommendation
