Not quite a Floating Island but near enough
Advantages: Lovely views and very close to the Uros islands Disadvantages: Not really 5* butclean, comfortable and convenient
...We stayed at the Libertador hotel in Puno, Lake Titicaca which was built in the shape of a liner snuggled into a hillside on Esteves Island on the shores of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. It is the only five-star hotel in the region, and all rooms have a view of Lake Titicaca. The views which were stunning and we watched both sunset and sunrise from the lobby area of the hotel which has floor to ceiling windows so that the ... ...hotel is 5 star is a bit misleading, it is possibly the best in the area and certainly the position is wonderful but the hotel is showing signs of its age in many ways. The lobby is quite spacious but quite ordinary. There was a large urn with coca tea and this was available at all times, however there were not many cups so if you arrived just after a huge party of German tourists as we did, then there were no cups for us.
There were two lifts but ...

Cusco - Libertador hotel - an Inca Palace
Advantages: Lovely hotel in excellent position Disadvantages: rooms a little dark
This is a large busy hotel just five minutes walk from the main square and next to the Inca Temple of the Sun . It is a traditional 16th century Pizzarro Palace with Spanish colonial additions beautifully decorated in Spanish/Peruvian style. The lobby is large and airy with many areas for sitting comfortably in groups to share a cup of the complimentary coca tea which is on tap 24 hours a day. The coca tea was essential to avoid altitude sickness ... ...in the day and when I woke in the morning if I didn't have a cup fairly quickly I did feel a little wobbly and shaky particularly the first morning after our arrival. There was also oxygen available if you needed it but I wasn't that bad and I found the tea, lots of water and fresh air helped me. We didn't eat meals other than breakfast in the hotel but those people I talked to who did eat in the restaurants said the food was very good. The restaurant ...

Inka terra Lodge - Tropical retreat - Machu Picchu
Advantages: A peaceful retreat in beautiful surroundings - a place to be spoilt Disadvantages: none that I found
...sleep. This was because the InkaTerra lodge hotel in Aguas Calientes is AT the station. In fact the rail line runs through the middle of the hotel. You have to check in at the Inka Grill on one side of the line then walk across the line to get to the rest of the hotel which consists of a series of lodges set in tropical vegetation climbing up the mountain behind. While checking in you are offered a complimentary drink while they do most of the work ... ...building where we checked in was also where you could access the internet with a few computers available (free which was great) and also where we had our lunch the day we were leaving.
After we checked in - on one side of the railway line - we walked across the line to try and find our room. We were trying to sort out the map when one of the staff members asked if they could help us. We jumped at the chance and were escorted to our room very quickly. ...

The discreet charm of the Casa San Blas
Advantages: A five-star stay… Disadvantages: …with just three-star facilities
...what it was about the Casa San Blas at Cusco that I liked so much. The hotel is certainly not without its limitations and even its failings, but it's a nevertheless a charming and delightful place to stay. Let's try to summarise what it has to offer.
* Location *
The Casa San Blas is situated just a few minutes' walk from Cusco's Plaza de Armas (central square), and is therefore convenient for all the main sights of the ancient Inca capital, such ... ...and scale *
The Casa San Blas is small, having been converted from a former merchant's house of no great grandeur. The 250-year-old building has been sensitively restored, retaining many of the original features. Approached down its little stone-paved cul-de-sac, it presents a welcoming aspect to the world, its entrance overhung with bougainvillea, while lanterns and potted geraniums decorate the walls, and two parasoled tables flank the separate ...

A priceless experience
Advantages: Possibly the best hotel I've ever stayed in Disadvantages: Possibly the most expensive too
...So what made the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Hotel - formerly and still alternatively known as the Pueblo - different? The welcome? The rooms? The setting? The facilities? The cuisine? The service? The ethos? In a word, yes. * The welcome….
….does not wait for your arrival at reception. As you alight from the train at Aguas Calientes station you are greeted on the platform by an Inkaterra representative, who will arrange for your luggage to be taken ... ...organic crop grown on the Inkaterra estate and flavoured with their own limes; we later found that a jug of this refreshing nectar is kept topped up at all times in reception for guests to help themselves. Bowls of fruit are also around on the same basis. Any questions you may have, not just about the hotel and its many services, but also about sight-seeing in the area, are answered at the same time, courteously and in fluent English. You are then ...
