Peterborough in General

... If any one is going to be derogatory about Peterborough, at least it should be a resident. What Is It Famous For? A fat comedian, a good cathedral and a crap football team. Roy Kinnear, (R.I.P), promoted the city in adverts during the eighties, stressing its mixture of ancient history ... Read review

City of Angles.

Advantages: Good road 'n rail connections make leaving easy.
Disadvantages: Not safe when the sun goes down.

...football team is less impressive, Peterborough United, ‘The Posh’, are a middle of the road, middle of the league sort of team. Not complete crap but don’t book your ticket to see them play Barcelona in the Champions League. They’re managed by Barry Fry, an excitable foul-mouthed dwarf, who jumps about a lot but achieves very little.

Infrastructure.

Wonderful ring road system, called the Parkways. ...
...‘maintenance’ work. Don’t come to Peterborough at Christmas or any other public holiday because you wont get in. Don’t come on Saturday if P.U.F.C. are playing at home, they may only attract ten to fifteen thousand, but they all cross the road at the same time.
Shopping is fine if your bag is another soulless ‘Mall’ just like all the rest, (Queensgate Centre), or there are huge out of town retail parks dotted ... more

Family Friendly

Bland and uninspiring

Advantages: Regular high speed trains
Disadvantages: Very middle aged and uninteresting for cyber freaks

...was (well famous to me), Peterborough has a reputation of being something a bit special. Is it just the football team that has the nickname 'Posh'? Just to set the scene, turn the way back dial to last weekend and play the Scooby-Doo music. It was the girlfriend's birthday coming up but though she wanted to see Kylie Minogue in Manchester, I couldn't get tickets. What to do? Well, we'd first met in Peterborough so hey, seeing as how she now has ...
...entertained... First impressions of Peterborough are very positive - it's fairly clean, pollution free, and seems pleasent and airy. A mix of the new (shops in all in their garish-ness) and the old (an impressive cathedral). But (and it starts here) after the initial slap in the face of shock you start to realise that there's not much to do for late twenty something cyber freaks (and their girlfriends). The shops are the usual high street chains ...

In and around Peterborough

Advantages: its easy to get the train into london
Disadvantages: flat countryside

...a small village in Cambridgeshire; Peterborough was about 30 miles away. I think I only visited once when I was a child. But when I was 16 I went to Peterborough technical college now called Peterborough regional college. Here I took my N N E B certificate. The college holds many different levels of courses. A levels, GCSEs GVNQs, BTECs, Professional qualifications, skills for life and many others. Peterborough is on the train line from London ...
...Peterborough. Peterborough is 80 miles north of London. And many people commute to London for work. The bus service is fair. I used to catch the bus from my village to Peterborough they ran every hour, The journey took about 1 hr 20 minutes I soon got digs with family while I attended college. The population of Peterborough is about 160,000 and expanding with new homes and businesses. There are several venues for business conferences. The river ...

A clean pleasent city

Advantages: Parkland and good layout
Disadvantages: Still growing

Peterborough is a cathedral city with a population of 150,000 situated 80 miles north of London. It is situated on the A47, the A1 and just north of the A14 providing good road links with all areas of the country. London is only 50 minutes away by train on the East Coast mainline, with services also running to the Midlands, the East Coast and the Northwest. The station is located in the heart of the city, adjacent to the bus station and Queensgate. ...
...Having lived in Peterborough all my life, I have visited many areas and generally find Peterborough a clean, pleasant city to live in but like all large cities it does have its less desired areas. The closeness to the countryside and comprehensive cycle network are an added bonus. ...

Peterborough a Pub Paradise

Advantages: Lots of Pubs
Disadvantages: Too many to choose from

Peterborough has everything you want from a big city, lots of shops, lots of parking, swimming pool, Catherdral bowling alley etc etc. But one of the best things is the pubs, both central and in the surrounding areas. Take for example the centre. You have: The College Arms. A Wetherspoons pub with a modern yet traditional feel. Serves lots of real ale with 3 different guests every week, lager and good food. This is one of the cheapest pubs in town, ...
...Tap. Europes largest (as the name suggests pub & brewery). Sit and enjoy a nice pint (I reccomend the Bass) whilst a range of Beer is brewed in front of you. If this gets boring you can always watch the Chefs cook the excellent Thai food, again through plate glass. Move on to HG's a theme pub featuring you guest it HG Wells. Lots of pictures and real pieces from his work Beer on tap is Eagle. Stroll next door to the Old Still, with an Olde Worlde ...

Peterborough - Modern and Historic!

Advantages: Modern and Historic in one!!
Disadvantages: Not the most exciting place to be!

Peterborough is not a bad place to live. Yes, there are definitely more exciting place to live or visit, but I am very fond of the place! Its main attraction has to be its beautiful Cathedral, which is just a stones throw away from the local Starbucks it is a historic reminder of what the city used to be like. You walk through an arch into the Cathedral’s courtyard and instantly get away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre. It is quite ...

You can visit Ferry Meadows and check out the waters sports facilities or find great cycling routes. Whatever you like you are sure to find something that you will enjoy in Peterborough!! ...

Disabled Acess!

Advantages: Met at the station adn accommpanied if nes.
Disadvantages: Fidiling with ramps/luggage can be annoying.

Well today i ventured out to try a train journey as a wheelchair user. I'm planning a trip to Peterborough in August and wanted to see just how friendly trains in general were. I was greeted at the check out with a happy chappy who seemed to know all there was to know about wheelchair acess. If he could have done the trip for me i'm sure he would have! We made our way to Edinburgh having been put on the train at the wrong end. Never fear though as the guards at Edinburgh Waverly were geared up for our arrival. My local station had telephoned ahead and ramps and smiling faces met us off the train. When booking for Peterborough the clerk made it clear that i did not have to remain in my chair for the journey. They will be happy to transfer me to a seat and have a record of needs for the duration of the trip. Everything was ...
